Emma walked into the office and went to her desk. She put her things down and ordered a coffee from the intern who was her brother. She loved to bug him. She logged onto her account to get on to her computer and looked at her schedule. She saw that she had to cancel her lunch date due to a surprise meeting with her boss later. She sighed to herself wondering what she did wrong now.
Shane sat at his desk typing away. He had some documents to fill in and send to the higher ups. He had been up for a few hours now working at his desk and his in office coffee maker was brewing the best kind of coffee. He had already drunk two cups and he was waiting for another to start.
Emma did all the things she needed to do. She did paperwork, created schedules, did research. Created some power points and showed her brother some computer tricks after he brought her some coffee.
Shane needed to make a phone call but he knew that it would slow down his work. He decided he needed help. He pressed the intercom. "Jen, could you get Emma to come up here." he said. Jen, his secretary replied and said she would. She paged Emma. "You're needed in Shane's office."
Emma sighed, "alright i will be there in a few minutes." she said. She finished all her stuff and headed to his office knocking on the door.
Shane heard the door and looked up. "Come in." he knew everything that he wanted to tell her and explain to her how she was going to help him
Emma came in, "you needed me?"she asked
"Yeah, take a seat." he said pointing at the seat in front of him. "I need you to help me with some work." He took out a few documents and placed the in front of her with a pencil. "It's just to fill in the numbers and check for any of the mistakes. You can do it in here."
Emma nodded, "okay."she took the pencil and started working on the papers.
Shane watched her. He frowned. "what's going on?" he asked. "You never agree to do the work I give you so readily." he said staring her down.
"Well you make me do it no matter what I say so I don't see the point anymore of arguing about it."Emma said with a shrug not even looking at him as she kept working. "The faster I finish this the faster i get back to my work."
Shane stroked his chin. He nodded. She was right. He would have made her do it. He stared at her. She was pretty, and he was attracted to her but company policy did not allow employees to date, especially bosses and their charges. He picked up his phone. "Jen, call Amanda for me please." he said. He had some business to take care of
"Is Amanda a new employee?"Emma asked being noisy but still didn't look at him. She was almost done.
Shane raised a curious eyebrow at her. "No." he said casually and picked up the phone when Jen called to say that it was done. He knew that he should have done it private but he didn't care in that moment. He put the phone to his ear. "Hey Amanda...don't call me babe....I thought I told you to stop coming by my place...we broke up...yeah...that's how it's going to stay....don't cry...no...I've moved on...I have a new girlfriend....well you don't need to know her name...it's ah...well she's called Emma...goodbye Amanda."
Emma was listening and looked up at him, "I'm your girlfriend now? How could you just use me without even asking? That is so rude."she said. She may be over reacting but its Just because she does kind of like him.
Shane rolled his eyes. "Sorry. I just needed a name. I could have used Jen but Amanda knows her." he shrugged and winked at her. He sat back. "What, you wouldn't want some of this?" he asked her.
She rolled her eyes trying to act appalled, "why would I want a conceded know it all boyfriend? I have higher standards than that."
Shane laughed and leaned on his desk. "Who's acting conceited and know-it-all like right now?" he asked. "You don't know me that well Emma." he said.
"with the way you treat me why should i want to get to know you? You obviously just use me to bring up your bonus at the end of the year and i just barley go over my expected amount of work."Emma said.
