Me too! Can't wait to start this challenge on Tuesday morning! :)I'll post my upcoming reads here tomorrow, along with what tasks they'll work for. :)
Okay! My first hopefuls are
and
. Wives and Daughters would work for 2 or 6 and Broad Highway would work for 1 or 5.
Hey, team Daisy! So happy to be on the team. I think the only gal I don’t know well is Maria. Looking forward to chatting with ya, friend. Ladies, I think this is going to be a blast.Any preference on the straights? We need to choose which straights number sequences we’re going for before we work on those categories.
For section one, we want to get enough points for the bonus as well, so let’s plan on a few large books for that.
I have an audio of Wives and Daughters, so I can take whichever of those two numbers you don’t want, Hannah.
Happy planning and reading, team!
Andrea and I will be able to cover tasks 2 and 6 for a total of 14 points (600 pages each plus 2 task points). That means we’ll need 13 more points in section 1 to get to 27 and get the 5 point bonus. If I can also finish The Broad Highway for task 1 or 5 that’s another 6 points. This is totally doable!Anyone else have possibilities for 1, 3, 4, or 5?
I’m sure I can find a book in my vast collection for almost anything. For the three and four of a kind categories, which option do we want to do?
I was thinking it would be neat to do the same author or genre, but I am open to the other options as well.
Three of a kind is going to be easy. For four of a kind, I think it would be fun to catch up on my stack of Kim Vogel Sawyer books...anyone else with me? She often has books of 300 or so pages.
I’ll gladly read another Kim Sawyer book.Still, we must decide something on the three of a kind, even if it will be easy. What genre does everyone like?
For me:
Historical
WWII
suspense
Contemporary
Time split
I’m reading A Woman’s Place by Lynn Austin soon. It works for #4 (446 pages) and #12 (rating 4.16). Does anyone mind if I take #4 on this one? It will help us with the page points for the bonus.

Section Two Total Points (once read and posted): 15
Since 5 will probably be the harder category to find, let’s pencil in The Broad Highway for 5 and then change it if someone has a book they’d prefer to read for it. My edition has 518 pages.
I have two review books coming (which means I must fit them in ASAP), so I'm slipping them into the Y for Yahtzee category and the average rating category (also in the Yahtzee section).
Great idea! I have Politano's newest but am not sure where it will fit in best. I'll be reading it this week or next.
Awesome! I'm a few chapters in, so it won't work for me for the game. But I have a feeling you're going to adore it. It sucked me in so fast! I was almost sad to celebrate my birthday this past weekend because that stole my reading time. Haha!!!
I'm very excited to start this challenge! :)My upcoming reads...
I'll be starting this book at midnight tonight and finishing it either tonight or tomorrow:
<-- This book works for section #1, task #1 (it has 179 pages), #3 (it has trees on its cover), #5 (it has a hand on its cover and was published in Oct.).I'll be reading these books next, in this order:
<-- This book works for section #1, task #2 (it has 261 pages), #3 (this ed. was published in May and has trees on its cover), and #6 (it was originally published in Dec.).
<-- This book works for section #1, task #3 (it has 384 pages and trees on its cover), #5 (it has a hand on its cover), and #6 (it was published in Dec.).These three books I have to finish for another challenge by the end of this month.
Then I'll be onto these books for the month of September:
<-- This book works for section #1, task #3 (it's the 3rd book in its series and has 336 pages and trees on its cover) and #4 (it was published in July).
<-- This book works for section #1, task #1 (it was published in Feb.), 2 (it's the 2nd book in its series), #3 (it has 369 pages and trees on its cover), and #5 (it has a hand on its cover).
<-- This book works for section #1, task #1 (it is a debut novel), #3 (it was published in Jun. and has trees on its cover), and #4 (it has 496 pages).
<-- This book works for section #1, task #3 (it has 320 pages), #4 (it was published in July), and #5 (it has a hand on its cover). These books can also work for many of the section #2 tasks. :)
Hannah wrote: "
"Hannah, I'll hold off on plugging these in until you let me know where you want them (and also after we hear from Maria and Abigail, as you and I already have a few categories, and Monique just gave us some books to plug in).
I'd like for post for section #1, task #1 tomorrow with my Bridge to Terabithia read. It has 179 pages and will be worth 3 points. :)
Monique, I have you down for:Bridge to Terabithia for section one, task one
The Secret Garden for section one, task three
That finishes up our planned books for section one, and we'll get the bonus points for sure.
I'm still looking through your other books and figuring out where they fit in section two.
Let's talk straights. Is everyone okay with doing:
small straight 1,2,3,4
large straight 1,2,3,4,5
My thinking on this: 1s and 2s are easy to get because anything published 2010 or after has each of those numbers in them. The others will be fairly easy in page counts.
Monique, Secret Garden and Witch of Blackbird Pond are some longtime top favorites of mine! Secret Garden does have some Eastern religion stuff in it which my mom marked out (I was 8). So my unique copy has them holding a prayer meeting. :)
I'd love the "Three of a Kind" section to be set to the children's genre, which I/we could easily fill. :)
Also, if the "Four of a Kind" section is set to the Christian fiction genre, it would fit many of our books, including what is already planned. :)
Do you have some kids books that are over 300 pages for three of a kind, if we do the children's genre? I don't have any kids books that will net us enough points to be worth it.The other teams are talking about making all of their books 300+ or 400+, so we'll definitely need to get as many page points as we can.
Page Points: 1 point per 100 pagesTask Points: 1 point per task completed
Example: for Four of a Kind, all four books have to be finished and reported before we get the 1 task point, but we get each set of page points (per book) as each book is finished/reported.
So, the more pages in the book, the more points we acquire.
Three of a kind could also be suspense or ww2 and might be easier to find longer books for. Unless you’ve got some children’s novels already picked out that are longer!
Maybe it would be better to have the "Three of a Kind" section set as the Christian fiction genre as well... It would be more likely that we would read books longer in length that fit this genre. This genre is really flexible. :)
The only exception (as I understand it) is the Chance section. Every teammate earns page points AND a task point on that one.
Hannah, does Christian Fiction work for you for both 3/4 of a kind? Most suspense and WWII we both read fit that, right? Do your review books that you're thinking of fit that, or did you need something different?Monique, I like how you're getting the broadest category that will fit a TON of books. Great thinking!
