I'm about 30% through, enjoying it so far. I find Jalan so funny! I'm liking the flashbacks, good to get an insight into the Red Queen.

I've just started, I'm on chapter 4, just 7% in. I'm glad his humour and everything picks up right where we left without morphing with the passage of time. He's hilarious!
I have to finish by Tuesday night when my library ebook turns into a pumpkin!

I quite enjoyed this one...if you want many, many spoilers you guys should check out the 2018 threads for this trilogy...we posted A LOT...

I'm enjoying it but because I'm doing the audio my mind completely blanks on anything to write down later haha. Will check out your spoilers from last year.

69% through, chapter 25 I think. (view spoiler)[It was interesting seeing Jalan back home and how all his friends had moved on so quickly, one even married his lover! I can't remember how long he was away? Not that long though surely. Poor guy.
I liked his being taken prison by the Alice guy and then being inadvertently saved by the Count who wanted to dual him! 😅
Oh and now he's started buying stocks and shares! Been in this place 5 mins and he's already started a pyramid scheme! So perfectly Jal!

RL has been busy but tonight I'm getting on an 11 hour plane ride, followed by a 7 hour plane ride 😩😵 so I'm planning on reading the whole thing in one sitting!!! 😂😂😂✈️✈️✈️

I'm still reading too, currently on Chapter 9, been a bit distracted as I've been binge-watching a programme too lol so haven't made as much progress.

It is very, very funny, there's certain lines that are just pure gold, but I'm not as addicted to it as I was to The Broken Empire series, in that I needed to know what happened next, this isn't so engaging for me. Will definitely carry on reading though!

That's exactly how I'm feeling @Beena. It's funny, I enjoy Jal, but it's also too easy to put down... I'm still working on it but got distracted by some holiday reads and a bookclub book...

I flew from Australia to Spain. I'm flying back tomorrow and maybe I'll finish it then??? 😂😂 I will!! I will!!! 😂😂

I've found that it picked up for me after the flashbacks, the first one alone was more interesting than the rest of the book had been up to that point. Also loved Jally; his chapter stole the show.

I'm on Chapter 23 now, so just hang in there, it definitely picks up more momentum!

Chapter 32 (view spoiler)[ I think despite maintaining he's still a coward, Jalan has actually found some courage, he wanted to run away the whole time whilst rescuing Snorri but he didn't. He's also actually grown a bit of a conscience and actually cares about Hennan's wellbeing. He has flashes of cleverness/ resourcefulness when he wants to, I thought using Loki's key to get the Guardian to serve him was pretty clever. Annoyed that once again Edris managed to get away though!

Also thought it was pretty ironic that he managed to get thrown into debtor's prison with a load of gold strapped to him lol. (hide spoiler)]

@Siobhan (view spoiler)[ Tbf, I saw that coming, I knew none of his "friends" would have mourned him that much as I don't think he'd ever really had a true friend until Snorri. I did feel sorry for him though, even his brother wasn't exactly overjoyed, the only person who truly cared was Garyus! I think he was away about 6 months.. so not that long.

Btw, you know when he's in his father's study and opens his safe, I knew that the "fone" was a phone but did you manage to figure out what the "holy stone" was? That one stumped me. Though the line about the clergy being able to communicate with God through the fone made me laugh. Here, I've managed to find that part; "The holy stone looked for all the world like a small iron pineapple, its surface divided into squares by deep grooves, a tarnished silver steel handle or lever held tight to the side. In ancient times the pineapple was ever the symbol of welcome". Any ideas? It's bugging me lol.

I can't believe he'd not been back in Vermillion 5 minutes and he landed himself in so much shit, such an idiot lol.
I know, I had to laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation when he was prisoner and was only saved because he'd got into trouble with someone else. And the fact that he only got away because he pretended to have fought Count Isen honourably! Lmao. (hide spoiler)]

I have to say, I love all the references to the time of the Builders, in this series and Broken Empire. I think a lot of them were more opaque/less obvious in Broken Empire though! The IKEA is a bit on the nose 🤣

I'm finished!! That ending was fantastic! I found the beginning boring, then very interesting with the filling in of blanks and super cool flashbacks, and then it really picked up and ended really well.

I'm definitely interested in continuing. How about you two?

I'm through chapter 6 now and (view spoiler)[a bit confused by the events, feel like each chapter has moved on a lot, maybe I'm zoning out for key information. Also Snorri keeps turning up then disappearing as far as I can tell with the audiobook!
And did it explain why the hell Lisa was a slave? Jal bought her, then next chapter she wasn't mentioned again! If my audiobook has the chapters out of order or something and I've just spoiled stuff for you I'm really sorry!! (hide spoiler)]

Maybe because of the format; Jal escaped from hell and he's remembering what happened in pieces, certain things are triggering his memory. So it cuts from present Jal travelling back to Vermillion and past Jal in his trip through hell with Snorri. I hope that makes sense, that's sooo weird that it confused you, maybe it's because of the way the audiobook is being narrated. Strange!

There's a discussion between Jal and Lisa in the last part of chapter 6; she was sailing to Vyene by herself to meet her husband's parents and their ship was set upon by pirates, consequently she ended up a slave. I've not read chapter 7 yet, but just scanning the first two pages it mentions Lisa's name a lot, so I don't know what's going on there...

I found the beginning very, very funny, the meal with the Sheik, the romp with his daughters; Lawrence was on form! I also thought, "ah he can't start this book with Jal rolling out of bed after having sex with somebody because he'll be in hell", but he gave it his best shot! Lol, nearly being tricked by a demon, so typical haha! Also, the fact that the book starts with the end of his journey in hell made me intrigued to know what happened to Snorri.

I'm enjoying the interlinks into Broken Empire as well, especially Jal's drinking session with Jorg- I hadn't realised their circumstances were so similar until Lawrence drew the parallels between them: similar circumstances but complete opposites in personality.

Some of the travelling bits in hell are a tad boring, it's been mostly alright overall, but I find myself wanting to read more about present day Jal.

Intrigued to know how Lisa fits into the story, I didn't think we'd see her again really.

Overall, it's been alright so far, enough to keep me interested, but not gripped. (hide spoiler)]
