Why does it says Adaptations or graphic novelizations should not be combined with the original work they are based upon but staff want the comic book/novel to be combined with the later novel? It's hard to track if you have both different books.

Both versions of Stardust have the same text. The only difference is whether they also have the illustrations.
That is quite different from a graphic novel which adapts the original text.
