Steampunk - Recommendations

A fellow group member made an interesting comment the other day. After finishing Bec McMasters Kiss of Steel, I confessed my confusion. Til then the Steampunk novels I've read are probably a little more sci-fi rather than PNR. So coming across McMasters vampires & verwulfen (wolves) threw me for a loop. That's when our group member offered her idea of this particular genre. STEAM = mechanical gizmos & gadgets PUNK = the uprising or rebellion. To this end I thoroughly agree. It also helped me realize that it needn't be at the fore front before it can be considered as such.
However an integral part, well for me, is the language. I'm no expert in Victorian language, hell, I'm one of the worst hacks of English around these parts! But I enjoy the play of words used in this genre. Which is the main reason why I shy from the modern, or contemporary, Steampunk genre.
But I digress, I'm supposed to be offering some recs.
I thoroughly enjoy the following series -
The Iron Seas series by Mel Jean Brook
Magnificent Devices by Shelley Adina.
In fact book 1 in Adina's series is free on Amazon ;)
I'm also bout to start Karina Cooper's The St Croix Chronicles.
Let me know how you get on. Actually after reviewing the books in your posting, its reminded me that I too have the same copy of Beauty & the Beast on my Kobo account!
Happy reading!
I've enjoyed Kate Locke and Bec McMasters, too. Others you might like are:The Clockwork Dagger by Beth Cato
Gideon Smith and the Mechanical Girl by David Barnett
Theresa Meyers's The Legend Chronicles trilogy
Mike Resnick's The Weird West Tales series

. It is YA but very good."That's exactly what I was going to recommend as well;) I'm not into YA but Magnificent Devices really is a great series.
I've enjoyed The Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences series. They are more action/adventure with a touch of romance so I find them a lot of fun. There are three books out so far (book four comes out next year):
,
, and
Sometimes I really hate GR - the dreaded error message after you typed a book ugggAnyway thanks everyone for the cool recommendations! My TBR list continues to grow YAY
A. W. Exley's Artifact Hunters is also a fun steampunk series - a great mix of mystery, romance and treasure hunting.
LastBreath said, "In fact book 1 in Adina's series is free on Amazon ;)"Thanks, I just downloaded it.
Another way to get recs is to go the the book page and check out the top right side "Readers also Enjoyed", its not always there, obviously dependent on shelvings. I noticed it come up on the Magnificent Devices book, so you might get some other good recs Dawn :)
