Okie Doke!

So, I've made a few book covers of my own, using MS Word, and in this contest they will FINALLY be put to use. I will show you the cover, and all contestants will create a blurb* for it!

Rules:

- The blurb can be anything from a sentence to a paragraph
- But make sure it is catchy and fun - it will be judged on creativity, catchiness, and, well, good grammar too, I suppose
- No swearing or inappropriate topics within the blurb
- I, along with two other judges**, will vote for the winner

The competition begins Monday, 10/6/14, and ends Monday, 10/13/14


*a blurb is a short kinda catchy sentence/paragraph about the book, you usually find it at the back cover of the book.
** the judges will be appointed when they step up and ask for the postition

I breathe in until the sandalwood incense reaches the depths of my lungs.
My lips vibrate, my chest reverberates a deep hum as I exhale.
It is almost music—a steady rhythm and poetic meaning, but no one to listen.

Entranced, I had forgotten the ache of leaving my legs in half-lotus for too long, the chill of the fresh autumn breeze on my cheeks, and the fresh cigarette burns on my arms. The exhaust from the week’s events made my shoulders sag, my posture slacken, and my face fall naturally into my palms. I blinked my eyes open to find the incense was near burning out as I was. One last wisp of life, then gone. The wind swiftly carried away the last lingering scent of sandalwood and took the temporary peace it had given me with it. I reached for my satchel to pack up my few belongings, but a yellow butterfly perched on top of my bag made my hand stop short. My namesake, Papillon. I can still hear Mother saying my name in her thick French accent.

“You can’t fight fire with fire, Poppy,” she’d say and shake her head every time she had to pick me up from the principal’s office for getting into another fight. But Mother was gone now, and this fire was different than petty high school rumbles in front of the old lockers. This fire had destroyed my family.

The butterfly flitted away, as if it sensed my burdens would be too heavy for its delicate wings.
They say that in hundreds of years, that slight flitter will eventually evolve into a tsunami big enough to wipe out entire cities.
You may not be able to fight fire with fire, but a tsunami would do the job.
Revenge will come; my namesake guarantees it.

All I know is that I can't stop, not for even a split second. Cause if I do they might catch me. And if they catch me it would be the end. For all of us.

The nearest neighbor is forty miles away, the closest law man... one thousand four hundred and sixty eight miles away. I counted every mile as the Puritan woman, the grave-robber and I walked side by side for four weeks across the country, somehow alive. We all know what has called us. We cannot stop until we reach the house.
So we walk wordlessly across the field, our aching feet in the same trudging motion. The house comes closer. The call becomes louder with every step. I cannot run away.
All at once, we stop at the door. My mind screams, but I am silent. The Puritan woman knocks on the door.
It swings open, the dust coats my throat. The grave-robber steps in first, his bone thin body eveloped by darkness.
"You called." Is all he says, fear shaking his in words.
A few seconds of tense silent ensues as he stands in the house. I don't want to see this. But I can't look away.
An arrow lodges itself in the graverobber's head.
The Puritan woman screams and tries with all her might to move her body. But the call does not let her run. The call wants her to see.
She is next.
With tears running down her pink cheeks, she steps in the house. "Y-you called." She wails, closing her eyes. The same silence rings. For a moment she is relieved.
A knife strikes her in back from an invisible hand. She crumples to the floor.
It is my turn. Closing my eyes, I step inside.
"You called." I say, my shoulders tense.
I already know my sentence. All of us did.
We were to die in the same way we killed our victims in cold blood.
Before the fire snakes up my clothes and blisters my skin, the call screams and pounds in my ears. I want to run, run, run away.
But there is no escaping Justice when it calls you to its humble abode. (hide spoiler)]
