J.L. (jlwilson) | 9 comments Hi Brianne! I absolutely adore your blog idea and I too am an avid fan of Harry Potter. I am self-publishing my first fantasy novel on Nov. 7th, the title is Renaria - Into the Adyton I can't wait to learn more about this group and watch it grow!

message 3: by Colleen (new)

Colleen | 3 comments Hi there! I also loved Harry Potter. I recently re-read the series while I was traveling and fell in love with it all over again.
I started writing a few years ago and finished up my first novel while I was traveling around the world.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I love meeting such like minded people! I will say I am in the same boat as both of you. I love Harry Potter and I am a writer/blogger. I have been working on a book however I don't plan to try and publish it for a few years.

I am so glad you both love my idea! I am super excited about it and hope to see the group grow! If you would like to invite friends and readers to join the group please do! I do have a few books lined up to read at the moment, so put your book for this months contest and if this doesn't get up and running for a bit and I finish the books on my list I will read yours.

Hi, I'm Argyle. Brianne mentioned this site on another forum so i thought I'd swing by. I'm a hobbyist author, having written two books and currently writing my third. My first book was a space/time travel sci-fi comedy. My second is Alex Frost: Overearth which is a childrens/teens fantasy adventure novel. Part one has been released in paperback and kindle format and is approximately the first half of Overearth which introduces the series by throwing Alex Frost head first into the action.

I was never really a HP fan when first released as it was outside my arrange, but as additional media was released I saw the depth of the world that had been created and found myself immersed.

Look forward speaking to you all!

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Argyle!

Thanks for joining the group and submitting your book! To everyone, I read the first two chapters of this book and I am completely hooked! Can't wait to read the rest!

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Crisp!

Nice to meet you! Thanks for joining the group! We are a relatively new group so if you know of any readers looking for a great new fantasy read send them this way!

message 9: by Cris (new)

Cris Pasqueralle | 6 comments Thanks for the welcome and my name should have come up as Cris. Autocorrect has a lot of explaining to do.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh oops! I just thought that maybe Cris was short for Crisp!

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

TO EVERYONE!

So far I have a lot of authors that have joined this group. Which is awesome! However, we need readers to vote on your books. It would be helpful for everyone if you go out and ask your friends/followers to come and vote on your book! I know this wont seem like promoting you book, but when we get a few readers on here more will follow.

message 12: by Sara (new)

Welcome to the group! What I did love about the Half Blood Prince (even though overall I agree it wasn't as good) was getting to understand and appreciate Snape. Please feel free to vote on a book in our October contest, the winner will be the next book the group reads!

Colleen | 3 comments Hey everyone!
I'm a med student from Illinois originally, though I live in Florida now. I have a dog and spend way too much time reading when I should be studying :)

I'm not trying to turn this into a self-promotion thread, but I wanted to mention that the book I wrote is FREE on Kindle right now. Sinister (Sinisters #1) by Colleen Fleshman
Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MLGSOKE

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Colleen!

Welcome to the group! However could you please keep your promotions to the contest thread for October. Post a summary of your book there and we will vote for the next book the group reads!

Thanks,

Brianne

Ashley G | 3 comments Hi all,

My name is Ashley, and I am currently in Optometry school. I've been in the group for quite awhile but have yet to really post or read the forums, but Breezy is an old friend from high school :)

I was a die-hard Harry Potter fan from almost the beginning, attending midnight release parties for both the books and their movies. I still am obsessed with fantasy reading, but rarely have any time to read right now :( So I may not join in as much as I'd like, but I plan on joining in and discussing whenever the opportunity arises!

Hi Seraphine! Welcome to the group! We are still a very new group and still trying to get our feet on the ground! We ran a contest for the authors last month but had very few readers vote. What we need help with is getting readers to the group to vote for the November contest. Any help would be wonderful!

The first Harry potter book will always have a very special place in my heart =) ooo sci fi! I love Sci Fi as well as fantasy! Can't wait to here about your writing!

Thanks for the Twitter e-vite! Good to be here. I'm LGA McIntyre - I'm a fantasy writer, and love chatting about all things fantasy, scifi, fringe and geeky. I've been haunted by poltergeists, and once performed my own exorcism. Looking forward to some good conversations!

I love to mix mythology mysticism and folklore in my writing. Kane And The Elven Realms is my first published book and the first in the series. Its characters include Furies, Angels, an Earth Goddess, warriors and Nymphs who posses special powers involving the elements (air, fire, earth, and water). They must unite to confront and stop The Fallen One.

Right now thru Thanksgiving Day, it's available for free via Barnes & Nobles, Smashwords.com and ibooks.

Hi L.G.A! Thanks for joining the group! What book are you reading at the moment? Would love to hear about your poltergeist hauntings! I have never seen a ghost but I don't not believe. I will believe it when I see it! I look forward to some great conversations as well!

Your book sounds really amazing! Maybe we should have a thread where new authors can promote their free books! What do you think?

message 32: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) Absolutely... This way it'll help away those that are on the fence about reading the book...

message 33: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 13, 2014 03:23PM) (new)

Alright there is now a place to promote free books! It's in Hogsmeade! =)

Has anyone read the story JK Rowling posted about Bellatrix? I am sad to say I haven't had time too =( I will be reading it soon!

message 40: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) Not yet... Didn't know... Hmmm

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

Its on pottermore somewhere but I am sure you can find it somewhere else as well if you just google search

message 42: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Darling | 1 comments I'm looking forward to reading the Bellatrix one, Brianne! I guess that's one great thing about writing great characters in a book series... you can always write about separate characters when the original series has been completed!

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes I am completely agree Wendy! Great characters are the best! When an author writes a great character, they can be evil or good but you still love them!

message 44: by N.K.Battles (new)

N.K.Battles N.K.Battles (nathankbattles) | 2 comments Hello Brianne! I'm not sure that my Transcendent series would follow well with Harry Potter, it's not really fantasy. It's more of an action/fiction novel. But I DO have another novel called "The Chronicles of Brad Smith" in the making, though it's not developed yet. "The Transcendent" is really about the government and a young man hacking their systems to give back to the needy. Also I tend to be a bit random....

message 45: by N.K.Battles (new)

N.K.Battles N.K.Battles (nathankbattles) | 2 comments I used to think making evil characters made me a rebel so I would intentionally try to dislike them. lol.

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Nathan and welcome to the group!

I look forward hearing about both your books and if your book in the making is fantasy then please feel free to submit it in our contest when your are done!

What are your favorite fantasy books? Have you read any good ones lately?

message 47: by Heather (new)

Heather Paul | 2 comments Hello to all. My name is Heather and I am a recovering Potter addict. I hope to read more great books and hopefully find another series of great books, but there will never be another Potter.

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Heather!

You have come to the right group if you are looking for more great books to read! I am a Harry Potter addict myself, however I do not think I will ever recover! Agreed that there will never be another Harry Potter!

Check out the contest going on to vote on the next book we read. Some amazing new authors have posted a summary of their books!

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

TO ALL MEMBERS OF THIS GROUP! We have gotten quite a few members since this group has started which is amazing! Thank you all for joining the search to find the next great fantasy book!

However, we hardly get anyone voting in the contests. This is the whole point of the group. To get new authors to submit a summary of their book and then for us readers to discover their work and vote on which book will be read that month.

I do not mind if you do not actually read the book but it would help if you all voted in the contest. That way members are voting on new authors and whichever book wins will be the next book I review on my blog. This will give that author a bit of exposure and help them on their way to becoming a famous author!

Thank you all for getting this group up and running and I can't wait for this group to get bigger and bring more exposure to these excellent new authors!

message 50: by Pam (new)

Pam (pamstucky) | 3 comments Hi, all! I'm Pam Stucky, an author of many books. The latest is a YA sci-fi adventure ... I'm intrigued reading your introductions because I had so much difficulty trying to decide whether it's sci-fi, fantasy, sci-fi fantasy, fantasy adventure, or other! I'll post it over in the November contest page, but it's called The Universes Inside the Lighthouse.

I, too, love the Harry Potter series. I couldn't say which book I love best, because what I love is the world-creation. JKR did an amazing job of building a world so rich and convincing that I'm sure most of us here have a vivid image of what we think it would be like. Quite an accomplishment! I've been fascinated by magic and other worlds since I was a kid, and the HP books just open up imaginations like none other. And I'm not ashamed to admit I love the movies as well as the books. The ending scenes of the final movie always bring a lump to my throat. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

Brianne (and others) have you gone into the YA forums to let readers know this group is here? Just trying to think how to connect with interested and like-minded people!
