This is the place to discuss your favorite books that have already made it to book stardom or are older.

Who remembers the book Into the Land of the Unicorn? Just came across this book from my childhood and I am tempted to read it again and review it now that I am older. I remember loving it!

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

So I am on the search for an old childhood book my teacher read to the class when I was younger. I think it is called the Silver Crown. But I can't find it anywhere! I remember the girl loses her family and ends up going on the run through the forest. She was running from a guy I think and she had a small silver crown that was important. Any ideas about how to find this book?

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

ha never mind I actually answered my own question by writing it down! I found it! http://www.barnesandnoble.com/reviews...

The Silver Crown

Has anyone read The Bartimaeus Trilogy? Reading the reviews many people are saying that the series is better than Harry Potter! This cannot be! I will have to read it now to form my own opinion... however biased it may be!

Cris Pasqueralle | 6 comments Hi Brianne. Never heard of The Bartimaeus Trilogy but saying its better than Harry Potter is some very high praise. It might be worth checking out based on that alone

message 7: by Cris (new)

Cris Pasqueralle | 6 comments I am currently reading The Game of Thrones series and am finding it amazing. I'd like to line up my next series, anyone have any suggestions?

Different magic system, but very good series...not necessarily better, just different.

message 9: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) Mistborn Trilogy from Brandon Sanderson is fantastic...The Kingkiller Chronicles from Patrick Rothfuss is outstanding...I liked both better than GoT so far.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks for the suggestions Dalek Chris (thats how I am differentiating between the two of you Chris' =) )!

I am definitely excited to read The Bartimaeus Trilogy. Thats what I was thinking Dalek Chris is that it is just as good but maybe different.

Also has anyone read The Wheel of Time series? Great books!

message 11: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) And yes, I'm a Whovian...so the Dalek reference is welcome!!! lol

message 13: by Sara (new)

Sara Now does anyone have Pottermore?

Just got my email from it telling me the story of Umbridge is up!

message 14: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) I do... Will have to check.

message 15: by Sara (new)

Sara Order of the Phoenix is up too. just finished.

message 16: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) Will have to check out our later...

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Nice! I haven't gotten that far in Pottermore but I am working on it!

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Has anyone attempted the Wheel of Time series? I got to book eight I think before I stopped. The first few books were fantastic and brilliantly written and then they started getting a little too slow for me.

message 19: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) I think that is my project for next summer... That or the Shannara series

message 20: by Raelee (new)

Raelee Carpenter | 1 comments I'm still a huge fan of The Chronicles of Narnia. ☺️

message 21: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) As you should be... A great series!

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

I am also a fan of Narnia! What an amazing series! I just recently reviewed a book that so desperately tried to be like Narnia and it failed miserably. It was so sad! But really it is tough to try and compare to Narnia!

L.G.A. McIntyre | 2 comments Has anyone ever read Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams? Haven't read it in a long time, but really enjoyed it.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

No I have never even heard of it! I always love getting suggestions from people, especially when I haven't heard of the books. Thanks L.G.A, I will look it up!

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

I have to add Name of the Wind to this list. What an amazing book!

message 26: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) And that was his debut... A lot to come... Brandon Sanderson has been around for a while, but they seem like 2 that are on top of their game...

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't read Brandon Sanderson but I really need to look into his books!

message 28: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) The Mistborn Trilogy is excellent... As are Elantris and The Rithmatist... I have his two newest 1000+ page beasts that are part of an upcoming 10 book series... Excellent magic system in Mistborn...

Better than Harry Potter? Ok, I must read and find out for myself. Thank you for posting this. Haha!

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

Ya that is what I have heard! I am going to be reading this book soon! I am VERY skeptical though!

message 31: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) Definitely not better... Just different... It's very good... I liked both Mistborn and Kingkiller Chronicles much more

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

My friend is reading the sorcerers companion but it is like a guide to harry potter

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Great suggestions! I've just checked out the reviews for Bartimaeus trilogy. Maybe I'm too bias but I can't believe anything could be better than harry potter but I'm excited to see!!

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

Should the Bartimaeus be the next book we read in this group besides the one we vote on?

message 35: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) I'll reread them...there's a 4th book as well... Solomon something...

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

oooo so 2 votes on this Bartimaeus! 1 more vote and we will read them!

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

I vote for it next. Sounds cool! It will be my first book in this group!! Yay!!!!

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

Yay!!! Okay so for the month of February we have the 1st book in the Bartimaeus trilogy to read!

message 39: by Maggie (new)

Maggie (awildmaggo) Okay, I'll pick up a copy somewhere.

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

I will look for it. Sounds good

message 41: by Alexander (new)

Alexander Draganov (darthsparhawk) I like many books. When you have read more than one thousand, it becomes difficult to pick favorites.
From YA/Middle Grade I love Harry Potter series and the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan, which for me are even superior. I have high hopes for the Magisterium series by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare.
From epic fantasy I prefer the classic authors - J.R.R. Tolkien, Terry Brooks, Raymond Feist and David Eddings, as well as the Warhammer novels, especially those about Elves - like The Sundering by Gav Thorpe or Malus Darkblade by Dan Abnett.
I also love the urban fantasy adventures of Simon R. Green, which are great fun, but not for children - can be pretty violent. :-)

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

I have been hearing these things about Percy Jackson and I realize I must read these books! Wow even better than Harry Potter??? That is a very big thing to say!

Have you read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss? I think you would like that book!

message 43: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) Percy Jackson is very good... But not quite up to Harry Potter... Read A Wise Man's Fear first... Lol

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

I have read Percy Jackson. Pretty good series.

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

How about I read Percy Jackson AND a Wise Man's Fear?

message 46: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) Hmmm...sounds like a trick.

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

Its a trap!

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

HaHa

message 49: by Chris (new)

Chris (straw10) Well played... I'm hearing Sheldon Cooper saying it though... Lol

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)
