2022 ONTD Reading Challenge discussion

This month, let’s have a bit of a laugh: our task is to read a comic novel.

Please remember that a comic novel is not a "comic book". It's a humourous novel. It may be a part of a genre, such as fantasy or sci-fi or romance, as long as is also markedly humourous. Memoirs and books of essays by comedians DO NOT COUNT.

Is this topic showing up at the very bottom for everyone else?

I'm gonna read Barbara Pym's Excellent Women since I really liked Jane and Prudence, and hopefully Angela Thirkell's Pomfret Towers.

I have a handful of romcom digital ARCs that I need to get to. I'm sure one of them will count. I'll figure out which soon.

I'm going to read Crazy Rich Asians this month!

Same! I think that will be a popular one here. I loved the movie, so I am looking forward to reading the book and seeing what everyone else thinks.

I decided on Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett. I think I'll love it! I put it on hold at the library.

I'm going to read Witches Abroad by Terry Pratchett, I just checked it out from the library! Discworld is so fun.

So i was sort of at a loss for this month but i see Geek Love is on the Book Riot list and i do have that on my shelf so i'll probably go with that one.

After a brutal reading slump last month, I picked up Equal Rites last night and wowowowowowow. I love it.

All the Discworld Witches books are great, and I love seeing people love them!

I was looking through the humor tag on libby and nothing is really catching me except stuff that's on hold for like 6 months. Would to all the boys I've loved? count? I really can't think of anything.

I went with Equal Rites, which is a pretty fun way to enter Discworld. I've also previously read the Guards! Guards! path which is funny as well. Although I do think Witches is easier than the Watchmen.

My only problem is that I kept imagining Esk at 11. I feel like I have Harry Potter to blame lol

I’m reading Good Omens, and am kinda doing it as a buddy rad with my partner. I’m having a slight hard time getting into it, possibly because I already saw the series. Hopefully I will get over the hump soon.

I was going to read Spoonbenders by Daryl Gregory but on the 4th page it hit one of me Big Nos (kid gets all horny looking at his cousin), so now I need to find something else. Maybe the sequel to Crazy Rich Asians?

I'm about 100 pages into Geek Love and it's alright but it's definitely....not....funny.

I just finished Witches Abroad and it was so nice being in the Discworld universe again. I really enjoyed the book and Pratchett is always good for chuckles!

So i gave up on Geek Love. After 150 pages i wasn't interested on invested in it at all.

I finished Family Trust and it was not funny. It's marketed as being a cross between The Nest and Crazy Rich Asians but lacks the drama or the charm.

I finished Crazy Rich Asians! Not a fan, characters were so meh.

I'm only read Excellent Women. I liked Jane and Prudence better, but it was a good comedy of matters.

I read Stray City by Chelsey Johnson and while it wasn't laugh-out-loud funny, it was a nice mix of drama and humor.

I liked this book well enough- it was certainly an original story and I loved most of all the atmosphere of Portland. I felt some of the secondary characters to be disappointing stereotypes but the main characters well fleshed-out. I like that the author didn't follow typical tropes. I did think the ending was a bit abrupt but overall, it was an interesting read.
