Hah, not bad.I like not being old enough to have been around when Monty Python was aired for the first time. There's always something I haven't seen!
Thanks Philip, I love the Pythons! There's a music influences thread in one of the folders down below, but this is fine, Monty Python can go anywhere. Very funny sketch.
I was watching The Holy Grail when my youngest was four or five, and she came in and sat on my lap just in time to see the French Ka-niggits launch the cow over the wall. She laughed so hard I think she peed a little. I knew then she was going to be just fine.
I don't know what it is. I love Monty Python, but I have never watched one of their movies all the way through! I've watched them in their entirety, but it pieces.
I always fall asleep at some point in the movie!
Maybe it's because they do repeat the same joke/theme over and over?

I've never fallen asleep...passed out maybe. There's usually a whole group of us that get together. Longterm tradition.We tried to tie coconuts to one guys parrot....his wife had a fit.
By the way...thanks for the invite to the group. :}
Tie coconuts to a parrot?
I hope "parrot" is a euphemism, ROFL!
And did his wife give you the bird?
*runs away* ;-)
My friend whose animals I took care of whenever she was out of town (she's since moved away) had an African Grey I loved. Sassy. Sassy bit everyone but Dina and me. I taught her to whistle Beethoven's "Ode to Joy." If she heard me in the other room with the dogs, she'd yell, "HEY YOU!" over and over until I came in to see her.

Well..., a bird in the bush, aye whot.He wasn't allowed to play with us for awhile.
She was so easily *not* amused. :{

I would have too.

Hahahahahaha!!!! I love Two Sheds
I miss them. And since we are in the music thread, I always liked "I'm a Lumberjack and I'm Okay"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zey8...
I was going to talk about how much I'm enjoying Ry Cooder's 'Mambo Sinuoso' but oh well.
Renee wrote: "How could I forget The Lumberjack Song!"Yeah. Well apparently I found it UNforgettable. I could go into detail, but that's subject matter for a whole 'story.'

Erm. . . a little embarrassing as are many of one's stories. But I will try, Renee. You are welcome to prod me if I forget to follow through. I guess we will also have a story thread. I will work on this story and post it therein: "Embarrassing Stories from One's Life, Adapted for Sharing."

I did enjoy that very much. Thank you, Michael.

She sounds amazing. And have you seen the links for Alex, the African Grey? I will find the best ones and post them. I don't know if there is an actual video beyond story about Alex asking a tax preparation person near his perch in the lab: "Wanta peanut" "No (and wouldn't look at him). So Alex repeated his inquiry inserting all the foods he liked: banana, candy, etc., etc. And she always said "No." without looking at him. So at last Alex asked: "What DO you want?"
I must say, I would love to have an African Gray parrot or a Macaw in our house, but the idea of them being here instead of in a jungle flock of their kind really disturbs me.

As a teaser..., does the story involve an actual lumberjack? :}
It does, but there are birds here already who need rescuing. So often they outlive their owners, as well as winding up with . . . not so good owners.

E.D. wrote: "As an aside...no parrots were harmed in the coconut tying episode. :}"Well thank you for saying that- I am a bird lover, and my Lovebird recently died, I miss her. :)

Renee wrote: "The Greys are scary-smart. I've always thought I'd enjoy having a raven as a companion."
I think Ravens are almost as smart- we saw four on top of a barn in Cape Breton this summer.
There is also a book about Alex the African Grey, very interesting!
Reminds me . . . I've got to remember to call tomorrow and set up a home visit for a Rat Terrier rescue before they rehome a little blind Rattie girl.

God no. Buncha Buddhist hippies.
Renee wrote: "The Greys are scary-smart. I've always thought I'd enjoy having a raven as a companion."
They seem pretty fierce, don't they. I can't imagine a southwest landscape without ravens. I love hearing the many sounds they make. Once near the 4 corners I was driving south and saw hundreds of them sitting on either side of 666 (since renamed thanks to Christians) just sitting, looking west, as though waiting for something to happen. I later read in 'Bird Brains' (by Candace somebody) that young ravens who have just gone off on their own may congregate. I don't remember why. I will look for that book.

I'd love to hear the song for that....."...he's a Buddhist hippie, he's okay......"
I used to have a catbird friend that would sit by me on the front stoop and eat bits of peanut butter sandwiches right next to me.

Renee wrote: "I used to have a catbird friend that would sit by me on the front stoop and eat bits of peanut butter sandwiches right next to me."Oh!! How wonderful- I love calling cat birds.
Seeing the ravens was a big deal for us because we don't have them here.
We're overrun with mockingbirds. They're territorial and downright aggressive. Sometimes you can hardly get out of your own front door for the crazy things. And they can hit you hard, too, hard enough to draw blood.
They learn to steer clear of me when I come out of my house . . . Kharma's usually with me and one made the mistake of attacking her. She's got a vendetta for them now. They usually only get one swoop at her, which is pretty impressive when you consider she's on a 3' leash!
The bluejays are better neighbors. I've had them nest on my porch and never even flinch when I walk across, let me set peanut butter and birdseed covered bread right next to the nest, even let me take photos of the hatchlings. And they're smart enough to figure out that Kharma keeps the cats at bay.
The cutest were the purple finches who used to nest in the hanging fuschia baskets I used to keep on the porch every summer. I'd have at least three nests every year.

Ommmmm and Tibetan Buddhist chanting (this was a friend's practice, not mine) similar to Mongolian throat singing; strange yet soothing and put me to sleep.

Ha. The first one. I have never seen that show it looks absurdly appealing. The second link is great, thanks. There is also one of an enjoyably corny performance. I will hunt it up.
This was more than I bargained for, a video that includes Tuvan throat singing and other 'surreal' music genres I never knew about, from Cracked.com:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSaPD...
Kallie, I didn't watch Big Bang Theory for several seasons, and then, while working on jewelry, caught it on a channel that carries the re-runs and laughed harder than I've laughed at a TV show in . . . forever.
It's a strange comedy that's really needs intelligence to fully catch the nuances and get the full effect.

You should be able to do that. It's been in syndication for several years now.
It's kind of the opposite of Seinfeld — all the characters have something likeable/human/endearing about them. And some things that make you want to shake 'em 'til their teeth rattle, lol. But they're basically decent human beings. Even Sheldon. He loves his Memaw. And "Soft Kitty." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIp77...
