C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) Ack!!!! You aren't reading Lyn Hamilton in order! But she is my most beloved Canadian author of all time and it's a pleasure to find her on anyone's list. By all means, see my review menu to compare notes. http://cmriedel.wordpress.com/reviews...

Kate | 53 comments Obviously I haven't told you what a rebel I am! Decided I didn't want to read the whole series, so just read the ones I was interested in. I think you liked her more than I did. I didn't dislike her, her books just weren't 5 star for me.

That's what makes horse racing, as the old saying goes.

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) I understand. What makes her my heroine, mentor is something uncanny. It is my ambition to be an author. How astounding do imagine it was, to delve into the first novel and find that her writing style matches mine!!!? One small tendency that I tried out before discovering her: to skip stating the obvious, or descriptions and scenes that didn't pertain to the plot. Maybe you've read my reviews but an example I give is, when Lara McClintoch needs to see the museum; there isn't a page about getting into a taxi and taking the ride: we neatly jump to the museum.

I was incredulous, uplifted to see a style I was adopting, works. What a boost and encouragement, to find your very own way of writing in print! Also I had been exactly at the pyramids pivotal to "The Xibalba Murders" myself personally. There's lots that makes people bond with books. Sometimes good writing is good writing, sometimes other ingredients resonate in a personal way. Sometimes the time of reading is right. http://cmriedel.wordpress.com/reviews...

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) Carolyn G. Hart it seems, you don't mind reading in order and giving that still-living author her due, by reading her amply. ;) Speaking of THIS Carolyn; friends / pals seem to be missing the opp to leave birthday greetings in my various discussion threads!

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) Way to be! I'm stagnated at 132. This novel is good enough to see the conclusion but not exciting enough for more than a few pages a night. The last two nights I've been busy or tired.

Congratulations, Kate!!! I'm getting closer than I ever have...but I don't believe I'll make 150 from my own stacks this year.

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) As we say in French: fait accomplit! The loss of my cat brought a halt to my reading for a time in August. Welcoming two sets of guests for my birthday last month and too many challenges concluding near Christmas.... There have been a few wordy books too. I can't choose all the ones that I sprint through quickly. I'll be pleased to make 140 and see that I **can** do 150. Congratulations again, Kate. Joyeux Noel!
