Noorilhuda | 116 comments Delighted to be doing this: This is my debut fiction novel, currently available only as an ebook ($2.99; Kindle Select) - print version TBA next year.

The Governess by Noorilhuda

The Governess is a 'Shane'-like woman (minus the brass tacks) who changes the lives of a family and then moves on. It's inspirational historical fiction, dealing with disillusionment, depression, alcohol abuse and lack of justice and purpose - if that sounds like up your alley, check it out:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MF8BJQE
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00MF8BJQE

Btw, the response has been phenomenal, considering that it was released almost as an after-thought - with just a click on an Apple MAC and all promotion, requests for reviews, paid adverts, etc. were done later.

Well, let me tell you that 700 free downloads in a 2-day period and almost a 100 copies in first 3-months for an unknown author (with a difficult-to-pronounce name) in a totally new environment / market is a good confidence-booster and source of pride.

I hope you get to see that too, once you've read it. Reviews are mixed, like all genuine newbies encounter!

Some of the best lines from the book are here:
https://www.goodreads.com/author/quot...

I work as a current affairs producer in Pakistan and have been published on a freelance basis by all leading English-language newspaper and magazine publications for 10 years now. A number of my well-researched news pieces are on Scribd:
https://www.scribd.com/noorilhuda

I see myself taking forward both sides of the narrative (fiction and non-fictional work). Both are equally important to me and give meaning to my life.

Thanks for the opportunity. Tc.

P.S. my last visit to UK was in 2005 when I did my Diploma in Broadcast Journalism from Thomson Foundation Wales UK - full of fantastic places!

Noorilhuda | 116 comments Editorial Reviews of 'The Governess ' The Governess by Noorilhuda :

"This book is not a short, easy read, but it is well-worth your time. You will find the story to be captivating, in spite of its simplicity. You will cry with the characters, learn about human nature, and speculate on the meaning of life.....This is an excellent book!" - David Burnett, Kindle Book Review

"A page turner! Transports you instantly to other worlds. Strong characterization and good writing." - Prof. Dr. Abdul Jabbar, Author of 'Reading and Writing with Multicultural Literature'

"This isn't a romance novel. It's an exploration of some very real, very difficult social situations and weaves several subplots into the main one that follows Jane on her road to redemption and self actualization......It's designed to be thought about, internalized and talked about.....A lot to take on in a single story, but I think it is done very well. A wonderful story." - Patricia Hamill, Author and Blogger

"I'm absolutely astounded that an author has the ability to put down on paper what are basically stream-of-consciousness thought processes of the main characters.....the author obviously excels at characterization and historical immersion.....only for passionate fans of historical fiction." - K.A. Krisko, Author of The Stolen Trilogy

Noorilhuda | 116 comments Readers and Bloggers, hi,

I would like to introduce contemporary psychological thriller 'Catharsis' which is a dark take on various forms of child abuse.

Catharsis by Noorilhuda

(on pre-order till 12th July)
Pages: 270
Synopsis:
Ten year old Daniel has been missing for more than a week.  His family and the police have all but lost hope of finding him alive. Then a strange old man enters the precinct at the 99th Avenue and declares he knows where the boy is - and who he’s with. The lead detective on the case Aurora Fox is skeptical. Is the hemophiliac puppet master, Maxwell Caine, part of the puzzle or the solution - and why does he look so dolled up?

Dark tale of a tough-as-nails detective, a curious old man and a persistent district attorney - all trying to catch a pedophile - (scratch that) - a serial killer.

Fear is relative.
What would you do to be free?

EXCERPT LINK:
https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog...

Ebook: $3.99 available exclusively on KDP-Select
Paperback: $10.99 available at Barnes & Noble and Amazon's online stores.

'Catharsis' is not a happy read. It has no happy people. It is dark, depressing and short. Readers may get nauseated by some references and be hopeful with others. It has the best and worst of human nature.

Readers and reviewers are requested not to reveal any spoilers.

EDITORIAL REVIEWS (PAPERBACK):

"In Noorilhuda's long, detailed, and frequently absorbing novel, Jane is a remarkable, well-drawn character, a woman who has known pain and hardship in her life and refused to let it curdle her. A great deal of the pleasure of this sedately-paced novel comes from watching her slowly and subtly change the lives of everyone connected with the Cavendish family. The novel itself has slight style and format questions, but the story in these pages is a very satisfying - and ultimately uplifting - one that will win over all but the most skeptical readers." - Historical Novel Society

"Probably not one for the reader wanting an 'easy' historical romance. The strength in the story for me lying not so much in the period details but the social commentary, the psychological delving into the characters (Jane in particular) and the fact that it had the makings of a great piece on early feminism." - Tracy Terry, Blogger 'Pen & Paper'

EDITORIAL REVIEWS (KINDLE):

"This book is not a short, easy read, but it is well-worth your time. You will find the story to be captivating, in spite of its simplicity. You will cry with the characters, learn about human nature, and speculate on the meaning of life.....This is an excellent book!" - David Burnett, Kindle Book Review

"This isn't a romance novel. A wonderful story." - Patricia Hamill, Author and Blogger

"In her first novel, Noorilhuda is ambitious and appealing......With Jane Adams, she has created a nineteenth-century character who is a twenty-first century woman." - Helga Stipa Madland, Professor Emerita, University of Oklahoma

Noorilhuda | 116 comments Am just dropping over for Catharsis by Noorilhuda

It has received less-than-stellar reviews - many hate one of the lead protagonists, female detective, as an unsympathetic character (and anger ball), some point out editing issues (or lack thereof), some like the story and structure. It is a unique story that's for sure.

It's FREE across Amazon right now, so do check it out. Would love more feedback:
