End of Ch 14

It's disheartening to see (view spoiler)[that there are still continuing bickering and escalated violence between the different factions of humanity, when there are a bunch of new worlds to explore and discover.

Having said that, although I dislike Murytyr (he's obviously a total jerk, trigger happy guy), but I can't entirely blame his response. Coop and the resistance sort of brought the whole thing to a mess when they killed the security forces. Obviously with the security forces in town, you'd think they'd hide the explosives better ... On the other hand, I really like that we would learn more about (view spoiler)[the origins of the species that built the protomolecule, assuming it's the same species that built the alien structures found on Ilus. Miller was correct: why don't the people there stop and think about the alien structure and not wonder about how they were left there and what happened to the original inhabitants ... (hide spoiler)]

I'm going to be starting in a couple of days. I'm trying to finish off another book first.

End of Chapter 33

(view spoiler)[Well, it happened again with the defense mechanism knocking out nearby resources with significant amount of power (in this case nuclear reactors). The humans are pretty much stuck down on Ilus until Holden could convince Miller to talk to the alien machines again, I guess.

But, it really is intriguing that so far the alien artifacts that have been found have been defensive in nature. Makes you wonder how scary the invading alien species was if they could scare the sh*t out of this other advanced alien species. Or perhaps, they were of the same species at war against each other ...

Btw, I hate Murytyr. But, he's a much stronger villain than in the previous 3 books. (hide spoiler)]

End of Ch 50

I gotta say the villain in this book is so deliciously evil. I’m really enjoying how truly evil his plans have been.

I finished last night. I thought this was another solid instalment.

(view spoiler)[There was a bit parallel with the creation of the state of Israel and the United Nations giving it to someone when someone else was already living there.

The fight between the RCE and the refugees seemed petty. The thing that annoyed me about Muntry was he wasn't even proper military but just an on overly officious security man but acting like a psychopath. The militia made up of engineers were even worse.

I didn’t think making Havelock and Basia into main characters worked that well. To me they felt like they were slightly paler, less interesting versions of Miller and Prax.
