Regina Osiecki | 296 comments Looking for a book that doesn't feature romance of the lord/lady kind, but the lord/lord kind. Or at least implied romance.

Aerulan | 1317 comments There's a lot of M/M (male/male romance) themed lists. You might check out Best Fantasy with Gay Main Characters and Best Gay Fantasy Romance

some of my favorites (though they generally aren't specifically two princes/lords)
The Magpie Lord by K.J. Charles Victorian England setting with magic
Reawakening by Amy Rae Durreson more traditional high fantasy setting
The Lightning-Struck Heart by TJ Klune (this one is really silly humor not a serious fantasy, but it's still fun)
Lord of the White Hell, Book 1 and Lord of the White Hell, Book 2 by Ginn Hale are excellent -the main characters are on the younger side (late teens) so the sex isn't terribly explicit. The world building in Hale's books are always excellent though. If you're willing to read a very lengthy, complicated, and rather gritty/dark fantasy series her Rifter books are fantastic too but take some dedication, the plot line is really convoluted and things don't begin to come clear til about the third book. It's worth it but books one and two are confusing, in the sense that you just can't see how it all fits together.
Luck in the Shadows b Lynn Flewelling -this one was sold as a regular fantasy so the romance is subtler and takes place over the course of the series.

Two more that are on my to-read list and very popular/well thought of that you may what to check out
A Royal Affair
Captive Prince

Robert (ricroscupshigh) | 545 comments Tavia Lark's Perilous courts series, starting with Prince and Assassin?

Not read it, but it might be worth looking for books about Edward II, such as The Gascon, by John Colin Penford; or, The Lord of Misrule, by Eve Trevaskis.

Richard I is another supposedly gay monarch. As Rainbowheart has already mentioned, fairly recently, Solomon's Crown, by Natasha Siegel but I'd be surprised if there aren't others (though it may be tricky to find them since earlier books may be flying under the radar!)

(William II, Richard II, James I, and William III might also be worth exploring).

Rebecca Cohen's Crofton chronicles series, starting with The Actor and the Earl features the romances a succession of the (entirely fictional) earls of Crofton.

Aleksander | 129 comments A Taste of Gold and Iron is an absolute fave of mine (prince/body guard)
A Strange and Stubborn Endurance (and its sequel All The Hidden Paths) (two princes)
Reforged (king/knight)
In Deeper Waters is YA but is quite good and fun (Prince/merman)

The Story of the Hundred Promises isnt royalty, but it is a queer and trans story about a wizard and someone they helped. Its vaguely inspired by beauty and the beast, and i just think its a really interesting story that doesnt get enough attention

its not medieval/dealing with lords/princes/etc, but i have to recommend the Last Unbinding series by Freya Marske. Its one of my all time favorite trilogies and it does involve queer relationships, magic, and historical fiction! The first book is A Marvellous Light

Karen | 8 comments I've been on an AJ Sherwood kick lately, some of her books might fit the bill:

- A Fae Coin Transported Me Into Another World and Now I'm the Gay Holy Maiden (book 1 of 15+ multi-author series) - the title pretty much describes the story, super sweet romance between the MCs

- Fourth Point of Contact , not really "fantasy" (no magic), more of a parallel/alternate world where some recognizable countries/cultures all seem to be on the same continent; M/M semi-retired soldiers who go from friends-to-lovers while they try to fend off assassins, saboteurs, and traitors to the crown (tip: chapter 15 = hawt, just sayin')
- Zone of Action , sequel to above, the MCs have to head back to an area of previous deployment to build a new fort, sounds boring but a lot of action sequences plus relationship growth

Also Gary of a Hundred Days and its sequel, super sweet and smexy
