Tips for Self Promotion, Sales, and Advertising discussion

Hi MJ, I believe such events go well if there is a talk/lecture related to the book. People come out, not only to have a good time (drink the bubbly), but also to learn something. My two cents.

Try to create a party-style theme related to your book.

I think having added value is great, a nice venue that has some connection with the author or the book, good refreshments and an interesting presentation that expands on the book. Also if appropriate some music or an exhibition to entertain people while they're mingling and discussing how brilliant the book is...

I have book reading at local businesses, for lack of better opportunities. I have a nice table cover for a small decorator table. I will put two figurines on it to represent the the main charcter and her mate. She is an angel and he is a sultan wearing orange and red, like I had described in the book. The aroma of spearmint is a recurring theme, so I will have a dish of wrapped spearmint candies.
I will place book marks and business cards also on the table. The business cards advertise angelic readings done by my co-author. This is the subject that the plot revolves around in the last two thirds of the book.
I would welcome any yays or even nays. I need honest feedback as I had not written any thing in forty years. I am certainly not a pro like so many of you are and appreciate your patience and williness to share. I enjoy the discussions and have long list of to read books now. Thank you.

Malika - I like those ideas! The spearmint candies are great, always a good idea to have refreshments even better if they can be themed! I love the figurines too! Bookmarks and business cards always help!
