Happy October All, this month we are reading Shirley Jackson's collection of spooky stories! Please share what was your favourite story from the collection in the finished thread.

Hi Jen, I'm not usually a short story reader, but i'm enjoying this spooky collection. I'm half way in and some stories I like more than others. Only ever read We Have Always Lived in the Castle The Haunting of Hill House and I loved these books.

I've just started it, only read the first 2 stories but enjoying them.

I started this today. She is really great at the ironically macabre!

Has anyone read her life story? So sad she died at only 48 years old. I read somewhere she was addicted to prescription medicine and alcohol :/

That might explain her way of thinking. When I read The Haunting of Hill House I thought she might be tripping.

My hold for this has still not come in. I may have to put another hold on it if it doesn't come in this week.

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to start participating with the group reads-- I'm trying to work my way through the manymany books I already own, before I buy or borrow more. I love Shirley Jackson and I do already own this book-- I'm going to start reading it tonight and I'll be joining the discussion soon.

All’s well, Karen, and I’m enjoying Dark Tales. Three to go so a little too soon to pick a favorite ;) but I’m enjoying the journey. And I was excited to see we’ll be reading Brooklyn next month—I’ve got my copy out and waiting
