The Reading Prismatic Arch discussion

So... who's finished the book? What did you think? Was it what you were expecting?

This book was a lot different than I thought it would be in several regards.

1) The creation of the monster. I didn't realize how different it was as compared to what we expect nowadays. I hear that our common perception is based on an old movie. They took some significant liberties. I was expecting corpse bits sewn together, lightning, a huge laboratory, "It's alive!", etc. The book doesn't say how it actually happens, but it's obvious it's nothing like what I was expecting.
2) Frankenstein's monster's personality. I expected him to be stupid, bumbling, and confused. A basic monster just reacting to being chased by villagers with pitchforks and torches. Not an intelligent, agile, and sadistic torturer.
3) The whole plot. Did anyone but me expect pitchforks and torches and angry villagers? Instead we got a mysterious creation, the creator doing everything he can to evade the reality of what he's done, and very few people actually knowing about the monster.
4) Cultural differences. I'm really glad that I don't have to travel like they did back in the day (telling people you're going to meet up with them sometime in a few weeks +/- a few weeks). I didn't expect for them to travel so much. I expected a castle. That's about it. Instead, we got college. College sounds a lot different now than it did back then.
5) I had heard that this would be a short read. It was a lot longer than I expected.

Overall, I gave it a 3/5. It seemed kind of slow to me. I wanted to knock Frankenstein upside the head for his actions and attitudes. I never really felt super-driven to read.

I am about a third of the way through, running into a similar problem, it's very slow and I'm finding myself drawn to other books. I'll finish it though, it just might be another 2 weeks or so before I do.

I'm still working on it. I'll finish it, eventually.

I'm 60% through but I've since beaten wind waker and so I don't have something to do while I listen. but the main take away I got from what i read is that Frankenstein is pretty weak willed. The other debate is who is responsible, the creator or the created, with multiple allusions to adam and eve.

I decided to watch I, Frankenstein on Netflix instead. That count right. It was a good movie, btw.
