Evelyn wrinkled her nose over the laundry basket she was holding. Carrying dirty laundry was not a part of her job she enjoyed, and it was bound to put a damper on the rest of her day. As she neared the door to the laundry, she realised the singing she could hear from the end of the corridor was coming from inside. Whoever was singing was going to have to stop, or someone would yell at them for making a noise, no matter how nice their voice was.

She clattered inside, dumping her basket on a table. If she could get her work done quickly, with a whole lot of noise, maybe the girl would just get the idea and stop singing. Or else Evelyn would probably get into trouble too, and that wasn't something she wanted.

Evelyn sighed. The girl had stopped singing, thank goodness.
"I'm Evelyn," she called, pushing her fringe behind her ears as she started shoving clothes into a machine. At least the whites and reds have already been separated, she though with a smile, closing the door and walking over to the sink where she could wash her hands. "Is there anything else that needs to be done?" She called out, waiting for a response.

"Lea, huh." Evelyn said. She really couldn't care less, the girl looked far too happy to have just finished doing a pile of boring laundry. "All of it? That must have taken you ages," she commented, shutting of the water and grabbing her coat from over her shoulder. She shook it out, and, once satisfied it hadn't gotten stained in the five seconds she'd left it alone, put it on. It was cold enough for no one to mind, and anyway, she could just glare at them until they went away.

Evelyn could't quite believe what she was hearing. The girl was probably delusional - or maybe she'd had far more work where she'd come from than here, although that was near impossible. Evelyn had thought she'd worked hard back at her family home, but the work here was far more than she was used to.
"Time does matter," she said, managing not to roll her eyes. "If you miss a meal, you'll be in so much trouble. And, anyway, what about your other jobs?"
