“What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity, and serenity devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter-a soothing, calming influence on the mind rather like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.”“A picture must possess a real power to generate light and for a long time now I’ve been conscious of expressing myself through light or rather in light.”
A) Picasso
B) Klee
C) Miro
D) Matisse
E) Kandinsky
By elimination: certainly not Picasso or Klee, I doubt it would be Miro, that leaves Matisse or Kandinsky... So I think Matisse is most likely.
I was thinking along the same lines when I listed the names, Kandinsky would be the only closest one to it. It is Matisse. Good job!Thank you for playing Dirk!
Who said this?“I am interested only in expressing the basic human emotions—tragedy, ecstasy, doom and so on— and the fact that lots of people break down and cry before my pictures shows that I communicate with those basic human emotions. The people who weep before my pictures are having the same religious experience I had when I painted them.”

I think you're right Brianna, sounds like something Warhol could've said.
Any publicity is good publicity. Not sure who said that or also: The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.

At some point down the road, being an artist became clown world and it was more about being some kind of jester, vowing for media attention—and Warhol was all about media attention.
Well,You’re right Brianna, in both accounts and Edward you’re also correct.
Good job!
Or should I say taking into account your last statement too, Brianna, you’re correct on all three accounts!

B) Warhol
C) Koons
D) Hirst
E) Hockney
I think where commercialism, the public, the whole ‘who you know’, comes in, Andy Warhol is the first artist we think of, true? I think initially he had to ‘sell’ his work to the art world and sometimes I wonder if he is still pulling the wool over our eyes.Other artists come to mind in more of today’s art, some, I think, aren’t great at all IMO, they just know the right people and know how to sell themselves. It’s not really their art that gives them a name.
