Truebluedah ♪ wrote: "I’m sorry but wait... why no gay things! Please tell me I didn’t join a homophobic group.."I'd like to voice this concern, too. While I love the main idea behind this group and would like to be a part of it, I don't want to be here if this is the case.
I am certainly not accusing anyone of homophobia here, but I do have a different perspective, which might not suit this group. I like experimenting and sometimes do include themes of homosexuality and LGBTQ+ in my works - and while not graphic at all, they would still touch upon the themes. Not all gay content has to be graphic, so my question is whether we aren't allowed to speak about it completely, or is it just the extreme content that isn't allowed? The latter, I will gladly abide by, but the former, I'm not so sure. There is gay content incorporated even in books meant for middle school ages, so of course those are not explicit. Would something like that be prohibited here as well?I personally do not believe that completely banning an idea such as this will help the people who are uncomfortable with it in the long run. I understand overly sexual or graphic content (which pretty much violate the general rules of Goodreads), but I don't think I agree that keeping out all gay ideas is the right way to keep things appropriate. I would have go off on a tangential essay to elucidate, so I'll shut up now.
I appreciate your response, Monique, but I'd love if a moderator weighed in as well to confirm.
Hi Hallie! Thanks for your input.
So, I didn't add that rule to keep things appropriate, because adding gay themes doesn't have to mean getting graphic- I just don't agree with it in my religion.
It would be something like:
"I waited for her by the mistletoe" when you are a female, that I do not want in this group. That's not getting "graphic", I just don't agree with it so I do not like seeing that.
As for the romance subject, you can include kissing and a lot of stuff, as long as you're not getting crazy about it and making people uncomfortable, which I am sure you understand and know when's the limit ^-^
By being a Christian, that does not mean I am super judgy and freak out about slightest indication of romance- I just like to keep things clean.
Hope this helped! If you have any more questions, please message me!
Guys, I stand firm behind my decision, and that doesn't mean I'm a homophobic. I don't agree with it, in the same way you might not agree with my religion, and I do not sit around all day judging people and being stuck up and snotty. I don't wish any harm on anybody, and I am just as horrified by attacks on gays as you are. If you want to leave, that's up to you.

Thanks for the reply, Lana! I'm afraid I might not be entirely happy to abide by that, so I'll take my leave. It's a shame, though, because I did really like the idea, but your group after all :) Good luck with it, and I sincerely hope it grows!
Sometimes it is SO hard to stand by your convictions, especially when you know many won't understand and some might be hurt. But you are definitely not alone and it's hard to say what positive impact you may have had on Hallie. 🙌LL

Heyyy folks!!
Abbie, I am happy to say that we've had to re-vote and you won the contest #6 with "The Veil" CONGRATULATIONS!!
Looks like we're nearing the end of a WHOOOLE Lyrical section! We're almost to #10?! Wow.
So, I'll let you in a little bit on what's going on ;)
1. The person with the most wins in the majority of contests (#1, #2, #3 etc.) Will be the the Grand Prize Winner!! (If there happens to be a tie between people, we will hold a contest specifically for them.)
2. They get to pick 3 of lyrics they have written, whether they entered it in any contest or not, and they give them to me
3. I choose my favorite out of the 3, and write the music for that
4. I record myself singing and playing along to YOUR lyrics, and upload that on Soundcloud and give you the link
5. I need at max until March 15th to get that song to you, it takes time to make a good quality song, and I'll be very busy moving.
6. Just as a side note, you have no control over the tune or what you "hope it'll sound like". The music I write to it will be purely and originally made by me, and I cannot possibly do what you have in mind.
7. After that, we start a fresh round of contests #11 to #20!!!!! And you'll get the chance to win if you haven't in the past.
8. just as a reminder, the winners are:
Faith
Cherie
Maddie
Shine
Maddie
Abbie
Faith
So looks like we have a tie right now between Maddie and Faith!
What will contest #8 and #9 bring??!? And most of all, contest #10!!??!?!?!??! AHHH I can't stand the suspense! Keep voting folks, because we're on the wire right now.
Thanks for all who participated in Lyrical this far!!!!
Cheers!

(This group is JUST getting started- more people will be invited soon.)
1. You vote on what you want to write about.
2. You can write a poem, lyrics, and it doesn't have to rhyme. I am a free spirit who believes in letting people do things their own way.
3. You write it, and post it on the thread I create specifically for that.
4. It can be any length, but the main theme HAS to be about whatever the topic is, (summer, for example) you can't just add the word summer in, and have the rest be about skateboarding.
5. Once everyone has posted by the deadline, you vote to who you think is best!
6. As a reminder, no sexual, gay, or overly-violent themes in comments, topics, or lyrics.
7. Good luck, have fun, and don't stress- hug a pug.
Any questions?
Rock on!
