This is my time of year, an earlier darkness, a chill, the trees take on a menacing appearance. The words seem to flow more easily in the autumn and it was when both my novel Grayscale and my short story collection Overcast were conceived.

The turn of autumn is my time of year too, but seen thru a different set of windows. I rejoice to watch trees reveal their awesome strength and structure.
Tho the increasing chill and dark inspire me to stay close to the comfort of my home hearth and read or contemplate, still I do like to sleep in the sun and then prowl in the dark. I'm 86 now and have always enjoyed the night and thrill to wake when others are fast asleep.
