Shanna_redwind | 9 comments I've been enjoying Librivox, especially in the great old Andre Norton science fiction.
Theres a lot of great free listening there.

I enjoyed the app even more when i finally figured out how to see what I had downloaded

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I've been listening to their recordings for years. The early ones could be rough, but now many are pro quality. Seems that some narrators are doing this just to get their services known. Others just do a fine job for free. I've found half a dozen that I choose when there are multiple versions.

Chrissie | 1529 comments I like them too, but I prefer those that have only one narrator, and I do not like how adds interrupt the story.

And also, it is a great idea to have a thread for librivox recordings here. Thanks.

I paid for the premium app to get rid of the ads. It wasnt very much, and I figured it was pretty good value for my money. I'd actually forgotten there was ads on it.

I paid for the premium app but still get ads (though not those audio ones that interrupt the book, just the little banners top and bottom).

Shanna_redwind | 9 comments Huh. I dont get any ads at all. Hope it stays that way though banner ads don't bother me too much.

Thanks for telling me about that.

booklearner Anybody have any favorite narrators on Librivox?

message 10: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie | 1529 comments Good question!

Gwen Adams | 1 comments Yes! I was going to start a list on Listopedia for all my favorites. Here are a few for starters (all British accents, all great readers):
Mil Nicholson
Joy Chan
Peter Yearsley
Adrian Praetzellis
Simon Evers
Karen Savage
Alan Chant and Hazel Chan

Check them out and I don't think you will be disappointed!

Chrissie | 1529 comments I appreciate your list. Thank you!

Trisha Rose | 15 comments I wanted to let Librivox fans know that a dearly loved and active volunteer, Beth Thomas, passed away this past week. She put together so many of the dramatic readings and also read many books and roles herself. She had a gentle, cheery, motherly voice. Her loss is felt in the LV community.
Here is her catalog:

Beth Thomas
