inaword | 149 comments I'm trying to find a book I once read when I was a child (in the mid-90s). It was a picture book (I remember it having a hard cover, like the Golden Books, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't a Golden Book).

All I can remember about it is that it was about a goat who owned a house and there was an ant (or some such insect) who had invaded the house (I guess) and the goat was trying to get the ant to leave. The goat tries different things to get rid of the ant and by the end the goat is going around with a hammer and accidentally smashes the water pipes with it and ends up flooding the house.

Not your book, but A Visitor for Bear by Bonny Becker has a very similar theme.

Well, if it weren't a goat, I would say Henry's Awful Mistake for sure, but Henry is a duck, not a goat. Otherwise it's spot on, however.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Were the illustrations colorful, realistic, full page, etc?
What country were you in when you read this book?
Part of a series?

message 13: by inaword (new)

inaword | 149 comments I'm fairly sure the illustrations were in colour, and possibly full-page. Don't really remember how realistic they were though, the goat may have been wearing coveralls or something.

I have no idea if it's part of a series and I'm from Canada. Pretty sure the book was in English, but there's a slight chance it could've been in French.

Videomaster21XX | 31 comments Wait, are you sure it's not Henry's Awful Mistake? Because I remember reading that book when I was a kid, and it goes exactly how you describe.

message 15: by inaword (new)

inaword | 149 comments Henry's Awful Mistake doesn't look at all familiar to me, and Henry is a duck. The book I'm thinking of was about a goat.

message 16: by Videomaster21XX (new)

Videomaster21XX | 31 comments Well, not trying to say you are lying, but maybe you are remembering a goat instead of a duck?

Just in case here is the book on youtube:

If that's really not it. Then I have no idea.

inaword | 149 comments Yeah, that's what I looked up earlier, doesn't ring any bells at all

Minor change to the header: "ant/insect". Feel free to update it by clicking the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website, not the Mobile website or app.

One suggestion is to scan the book covers on Worldcat.org. This website is helpful for finding old children's books. For example:

https://www.worldcat.org/advancedsearch > Keywords: goat illustrations (add keywords to narrow the search) | 1960-2000 (?) | Juvenile | Fiction | Book | English

Or try different Google Images searches. For example:

www.google.com > Select "Images" tab near the top > Search for keywords such as: "picture book" goat ant 1990s
