Don't throw out your Westerns! The Western genre (True Grit, The Lone Star Ranger, or just about anything by Zane Grey) is a market that has long since seen it's golden days. If you were an author today looking to write books about the Old West, you'd have a hard time finding a publisher, and a hard time selling your work. But the Western genre survives in prisons, and (male) prisons are glad to take donations of Western novels. For the most part, prisoners read the same stuff that's popular outside of prison, with this exception: Westerns are popular in prison. So don't throw out your old Westerns. Or your dad's Westerns. Or maybe they're your grandfather's Westerns. Maybe the cover is cracked and the pages are a little yellow, but please consider donating them to a prison.

Barbara (bkbsmiles) | 3 comments I know that my brother had a lot of westerns growing up. I am going to share this on facebook as I have done with other requests that you have made there. In the past, I shared with avid readers who lived one of the places you listed in Wichita. Thanks for keeping us mindful of ways to donate.

Thank you, Barbara! I hear from just about every librarian at adult men's prisons that Westerns are very popular. The only thing to do is make sure that the prison accepts hardbacks, if the Westerns you're donating aren't soft cover. Thank you for your help!
