What novel have you chosen for the Independent Novel Project? Why did you choose your book?

Molly | 1 comments I chose to read Pride and Prejeduce because I've always been told that it is a great book to read and i thought by reading it, it would help me on the AP test.

Sarah Purtee | 1 comments I have chosen the "Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man". It is basically a story about a young mixed kid trying to find himself. Is he white? Is he black? Where does he belong? I have always been interested in books about overcoming struggles and finding who you are. I can't wait to read it. (Need help finding it though btw..)

Mariah | 1 comments I chose to read The house on Mango street becuase I felt that it had a good story and it talks about a young hispanic girl growing up in the hispanic quater of chicago. The girl experiences the hard realilities of life, the fetters of class and gender, the specter of racial enmity, the mysteries of sexuality, and more.

Drew Daulton | 1 comments I chose to read "And then there were none." by Agatha Christie. This book seemed very interesting as a mystery. Agatha Christie is apparently "The queen of mystery."

Jenny Gaunce | 1 comments My choice to read "Of Mice and Men" was influenced by the fact of how it's rumored to have an interesting plot line, and Steinbeck always has impressive work.

Zachary | 1 comments I chose to read 1984 because I heard it was quite the entertaining book. I was first introduced to the book through the Lonely Island comedic song "YOLO." The song makes reference to George Orwells's novel, and upon hearing this specific lyric I decided to research the book. I found that it is set in a dystopian society much like those of many of today's popular books, which interested me greatly.

I chose this book not only for its length and relevance to the AP Literature exam but becasue I have heard it is a good read by a reliable source in the English field.

Tanner Harris | 1 comments With much debate within my own psyche, I have decided to devote my talents of reading to the completion of Crime and Punishment because I own the book, but I have never read it. I noticed that it was towards the top of the list of books that had been referenced on the AP Lit. test in number of appearences. I also looked up a plot summary to kind of get a feel for what kind of book it was. I haven't read more than the first few pages, but it seems like it may be the kind of book that would keep me from finishing my homework.

I selected this book because I read the prologue which told that the book was actually written inorder to critize 19th century British politics, rather than the purely fictional story i excpected. This intrigued me, so i decided to read it.

The fact that it took him 9 years to write and is based on his wife's own struggle with mental illness really intrigues me. Plus, I love the twenties, so obviously that's a huge bonus!

In this project my goal was to read a well known piece of literature so I can qoute a good book and people respect me for my knowledge of literature. I chose to read this book because it is in the genre of suspense.The story follows the mystery of why a politiican's wife disappears but it also discovers that the husband isn't who everyone thinks he is.

15robeva | 1 comments I chose the book, The Hound of the Baskervilles, for the independant novel project because Ive always wanted to read a Sherlock Holmes story (written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle), and now I get to pick over every miniscule detail of his most famous Sherlock Holmes novel.

Trevor Farmer | 1 comments For my novel, I chose to read, "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury. I have heard good things about his work and have always wanted to read this book considered one of America's "classics". This book is consumed with irony as the story follows an individual firefighter whose duty is to start fires instead of extinguish them. The fact that this book contrasts current-day society with that of a dystopia is intriguing to me.

Aaron Norton | 1 comments My thoughts as to what I shall read throughout the duration of this "Indepentant Novel Project" directed me to the book that is known as "The Bear" by William Faulkner. I have selected this books in the hopes that I could achieve "the feels" for this fine piece of literature. I enjoy the outdoors and all the creatures that abide there. Therefore that is why I did, in fact, select this book.
