Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments A thief never stays in one place long, let alone a thief who is being mercilessly chased. About a year ago Guy A worked under a con man, that is until he double crossed him and stole something of high intrinsic value and sold it for a hefty profit. Since then he has been on the run from him, hiding out where he can. His funds have quickly dwindled to nothing, leaving him nothing but a broke street thief. When his past once again catches up to him he has no choice but to seek passage elsewhere by stowing away on a ship.
When Guy A is found the captain of the small merchant ship is furious and nearly throws him overboard, however
Girl A - the captain's daughter- talks her father into letting guy A stay, citing that he may be able to help with their current situation. Soon it is revealed to guy A that he has once again ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time as the crew and ship is cursed- anyone on board must not step foot on the mainland or risk loosing their lives. Now he is horrifyingly stuck in one place- practically a death sentence with the persistence of his previous employer's efforts to hunt him down. The only way he will get off of the floating death trap is to help the crew find an answer for the curse hanging overhead.

Anna Awesome, thanks!

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments no problem! Should we do characters like on our last one: Name, age, appearance, personality? Or is there anything else you want to add this go around?

message 4: by Anna (new)

Anna Honestly, either is fine with me. We could add a short history thing, or something like that. I may add a bit of that to mine. So I'm being the thief, and you're the captain's daughter?

message 5: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments alright, sounds good. And yes that is what I had originally planned on if you are alright with that.

message 6: by Anna (new)

Anna Yep! Just wanted to double check before I started making the character! XD

message 7: by Anna (new)

Anna Oh, and where would you like to begin, once we have characters created?

message 8: by Anna (new)

Anna Name: Benji, or Coyote
Age: 19
Appearance:
description
description
https://i.pinimg.com/564x/9f/82/0c/9f...
Personality: Benji has an unusual personality, at least what he thinks. He likes being mysterious at times, but he's really just a nice guy-besides the fact that he's thief. When he gets angry, then he can be mean, but most of the time, he jokes about his situations.
Benji likes girls a lot. It's just him. He likes talking to them and trying to befriend them, and goes out of his way to give them flowers or a kiss on the cheek.

message 9: by Anna (new)

Anna Let me know what you think!

message 10: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments your's looks great!

here is mine:

Name: Faline Emilia Avrett
Age: 19
Appearance: https://66.media.tumblr.com/ef1fb80e1...

Personality: Faline is a dreamer. Having been confined to the ship for the entirety of her life, or at least the entirety that she can remember, it is the only way she has survived without going absolutely crazy. She enjoys reading novels and can often times be found roaping one of the crew members into acting out some of her favorite scenes. Understandably she is curious of the world beyond the sea and takes interest in any experience that is new to her.

I guess the logical place to begin would be when he is first found on the ship???

message 11: by Anna (new)

Anna Thank you! Okay! Who first? I can go first if you want, to put Benji in a place on the ship or something.

message 12: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments that would be great and would probably work best.

message 13: by Anna (new)

Anna Okay! It'll be up in a bit.

Anna Benji the Coyote, as he was infamously known, was running through the town, having spent all but a few coins of the large item he'd stolen from his boss. He knew it had been a huge mistake, especially now that the larger man was out to kill him. That rat was definitely someone to avoid-he'd learned everything he knew about his own lifestyle from that man, and now his abilities were going to be challenged.

Really, Benji didn't know how far away the man was, but he thought it was better to have as much space as he could between them. The smell of salt grew stronger as he approached the sea with the small harbor. As he was running, he suddenly had an idea strike him.
Ships.
He could stowaway and his boss wouldn't have any idea where he had gone. At least, once he found out, Benji could be long gone by then.

Benji slowed to a walk, moving out into the open as his eyes scanned the ships. Most weren't very big, and he didn't need anything massive. All he needed was to get on one and down below under deck before anyone returned. He couldn't swim out to any, so that ruled out half of them that were purposely anchored farther out. If he went aboard wet, a sailor or captain could notice the droplets of water across the planks.

Finally, Benji chose a small merchant ship and made his way closer. He couldn't tell if anyone was on board, but he walked silently, having been trained in such a field. He still had his two thick daggers and a purse with about three gold coins inside, as well as a hard crust of bread that was who knew how old. He eventually managed to duck down into the lowest part of the ship's belly, pausing as people moved about inside, and crawled behind some loaded up cargo boxes and sacks. Somehow, he hadn't been spotted. Benji sank down on a pile of coiled rope, pulling the large piece of canvas over top of his body. Then without another thought or concern, he fell asleep.

((Hopefully that wasn't cheesy....XP))

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Docking days were always the worst. It seemed to set the ship into a painfully still and solemn silence. Most of the small crew tended to stick to their work inside and below, finding things to keep them busy and away from the main deck if they could help it. Some even chose to lock themselves in portholeless rooms out of fear that the temptation to step foot on land would be too great, the key entrusted to those of a stronger will.
They had been docked here a while. By now the ship had been stocked with supplies and goods once more- the crates now waiting on the main deck to be taken below once the ship was back out at sea, when the remainder of the crew would once again emerge from their hiding places below.

Faline was used to this, and just as the rest of the crew, she had her own routine for days such as this. While others hid below, throwing themselves into busy work or blocking out the world entirely, she allowed herself to stay above deck and admire the civilization beyond. This time, just as always, she climbed up the main mast and stood- looking at the strange unfamilair world beyond as a skeleton crew below raised anchor and set the vessel out to sea once more.

It wasn't unusual for her to spend hours there- even after the mass of land had turned into little more than a speck on the horizon or had dissapeared completely. She wondered how it felt- to have a stationary home, to go outside and be able to pick flowers, or sit under trees, or even find smooth pebbles along the sea shore. The only thing she knew was the constant sway of the ship, the sound of waves crashing against the side of the vessel, and the constant smell of salt.

Slowly but surely the mass of land grew smaller and smaller as the ship gained distance from it. Eventually crew members began to return to the main deck, and once again everything was back to normal as they began taking crates down below to be safely stored.

message 16: by Anna (new)

Anna Benji continued sleeping, dreaming of being chased by that man. He grunted, shifting underneath the tarp. One of his scarred hands fell out from underneath it, very near a box that some of the crew were reorganizing, moving around, and locating in better locations. He shifted, but didn't move.

Sooner than later, a crew member would probably find him hiding in the back as they reorganized themselves.

message 17: by Anna (new)

Anna ((Sorry I don't know what to say in response))

message 18: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Below deck the first mate oversaw the task of bringing and arranging the crates in the supply room. Now that they were once again away from land the crew began to fall back into their usual routine, joking and pointing blame at who was doing the least work.
"At least I'm actually helping!" One of the crew members pointed out in response to being called the weak link. "Edison isn't even here, probably hiding out until all the hard work is done."
"Sounds like him, " another crew member agreed as the two lifted a crate to take to the other side of the storage area "probably hiding out in the kitchens, stuffing his face while the rest of us work our a-" he was cut off by the first mate holding up one hand and bringing a finger up to his lips with the other hand, signaling them to freeze and be quiet. The second crew member raised an eyebrow in question but didn't make any further comment. In response the first mate pointed to a tarp- or more specifically a hand sticking out from under the tarp just about a foot away from where they now stood. The two carrying the crate seemed to get the message and carefully set the heavy crate aside before circling around the tarp. "Pretty clever, Edison- hiding in the exact room that you want to avoid work in, but not quite clever enough." With that one of the crew members ripped the tarp away- expecting to find the infamous Edison sprawled beneath. Their smirks faded as that was in fact not what they found. The first mate sprung into action- quickly drawing a long blade that he had strapped to his side and pointing it lethally at the the subject sprawled across the twisted coils of rope. "Go get the captain" he ordered the other man closest to the door. As he scrambled away to do that the first mate looked back to the unfortunate soul now held at knife point. ". . . And you stand up, but don't do anything stupid " he warned, his voice low and stern.

message 19: by Anna (new)

Anna Benji had been dreaming about pleasant meals together with some girl he liked-which really changed every time he had that dream-when the tarp around him rustled noisily as the canvas was thrown to the side. He grunted, shifting a little on the wooden planks topped with ropes. He heard someone shouting at him, and the words didn't register until he opened his eyes with a frown. "Uh oh," he muttered, staring up the edge of the sword into the first mate's eyes. He nodded, pushing himself slowly to his feet and putting his hands on his waist. "Well. None of you were really supposed to find me at all. That's too bad." Benji frowned, glancing between the faces of the sailors who had captured him.

message 20: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments "And you were not sapost to be here in the first place, but nonetheless here we are." The first mate replied calmly, still staring him down. He broke eye contact long enough to scan him over, sizing him up. He didn't seem like he would be much of a threat, but he wasn't going to take any chances and kept his blade at the ready. "Let's take a little walk above deck, shall we." It wasn't a question but rather a direct order. He nodded towards the door, signaling for the remaining crew member to walk ahead of them.

message 21: by Anna (new)

Anna "Here we are," Benji dropped his hands to his side, shrugging. "We shall." He agreed readily, waiting for the remaining crew member to start walking first. When he did, Benji followed after him calmly, strolling along as if he wasn't being threatened with a blade. They made their way up to the top of the deck.

message 22: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments The first mate followed close, not liking the situation one bit. Once up on the main deck they were almost immediately surrounded by a good number of the remainder of the crew. It didn't take much longer for the captain to appear. He was a tall, cold looking man with a face almost leathery looking from sun exposure, graying brown hair, and a silvery white scar running through his left eyebrow. "Who are you, boy? And what are you doing on my ship?"

Although the mass of land had long sense dissapeared from the horizon, Faline still remained up on her perch on the mast. Returning to the deck below meant returning to the same mundane routine. She would much rather hold onto the fantasy life she had built in her head just a little longer. She was lost in thought- daydreaming about being able to pick apples straight from the tree they grew on when she caught movement below from the corner of her eye. Below it seemed that a crowd had formed. That was a deviation from usual.

message 23: by Anna (new)

Anna "Hey, sir," Benji smiled a bit, raising an eyebrow. He held the captain's gaze steadily, smirking. "I'll say, this is a nice ship you've got, even down below where all your cargo is. I just needed a ride and thought you wouldn't mind if I came aboard? Now I'm thinking that you do mind?" He could tell that this man wasn't very pleased with him. Not at all. "Oh, and I almost forgot. I'm Benji, sometimes called Benji the Coyote. You can call me that, too, if you'd like." He smiled pleasantly.

message 24: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments The captain was clearly not impressed with him, even with his seemingly unafraid nature. He shook his head "You poor fool, you have no idea what you have gotten yourself into by boarding this ship. . . " The captain took a step back, pacing a few steps as he pondered what to say, the crew still circled around them. "Stowing away, especially on this ship- my ship, is punishable by death." He stopped in front of him again. "I could throw you overboard, let you take your chances with the sea . . . If you're lucky the carnivorous marine life will take you long before drowning. Or perhaps you would prefer a swifter death- brought about by blade" he pulled his own sword from his side, the sharp edge glinting in the sun. ". . . I suppose that choice is yours." He pointed it at Benji, the rest of the crew silencing without hint of the murmured comments that were being spread before this point. Although it was only a moment the silence hung heavy, seeming to stretch on painfully- until it was abruptly broken.
"What is the meaning of this?" A distinctly female voice questioned from beyond the circle of crewmembers. The circle parted where the voice had originated- making way for Faline. It hadn't taken her long to catch on to the situation and leave her perch above. She swiftly made her way over to the captain's side, some of the closer crew members taking a cautionary step back. "It is unlike you to be so utterly barbaric. Don't you believe this ship has seen enough bloodshed?"
The captain took in a sharp breath, eyes still fixed on Benji. "Return to your cabin Faline, this is no concern of yours."

message 25: by Anna (new)

Anna Benji listened patiently, then up the blade to the taller man. Benji wasn't a tall man, but he was certainly muscled and more on the stocky side. "How come it's punishable by death? What's it going to do except kill me? It won't keep anyone from stowing away on your ship later on." He shrugged, watching the man.
Benji really didn't want to die yet. That would be...well, unfortunate. He wanted to become rich and famous, instead of poor and infamous. And what death would be better? Jump overboard and freeze to death in the icy waters, or become a meal for some shark? Or give in to these men and let them kill him? He was already thinking about how much better taking his own life would be than let someone else take away his dignity on this deck.
His thoughts were interrupted with a sweeter voice than these of the crew. Eyebrow raising, Benij glanced over to notice a pretty female standing there. Before he could stop himself, he said, "Wow! You're quite a figure!" He grinned at her, offering her a friendly smile before winking. Then he fixed his gaze back on the captain.

message 26: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Upon his comment Faline shot Benji a look that in her mind roughly translated to 'you're not helping your case'.
She quickly shifted her attention back to the captain. "It is of my concern, father." Faline countered, stepping up and guiding the blade back down to his side harmlessly. "Senselessly killing this stow away is not going to fix or prove anything."
The captain looked from Faline to the stowaway and then back. He grabbed her arm and pulled her a few feet from the crowd, then in a low voice that only she would be able to hear replied, "You as well as I know that his fate was sealed the second he stepped foot on this ship."
"Yes" Faline replied in a hushed tone matching his own, "but that does not mean that it should be born of your hand. She glanced back to where the stranger stood a moment before looking to her father again. ". . . There may be nothing that we can do to change his fate, but he may very well be able to help us change all of ours. He has been on land, he may have knowledge that we may not, at the very least a fresh perspective to offer."
The captain took in a breath, considering it. For a moment he seemed to be conflicted. ". . . I wouldn't get your hopes up." He pinched the bridge of his nose like he was fighting off a headache before sheathing his sword once more and headed back towards the crowd.
"All men who have not returned to their duties in the next two minutes will be responsible for mending the storm sails. . . while they are in use. There is nothing more to see here." He announced loudly to his crew, giving them all a pointed glance. The crowd quickly dispersed, the members scurrying off to their respective posts.

message 27: by Anna (new)

Anna Benji waited patiently, considering leaving the deck. But then what would he do down there anyway? Really, he was just stuck here for now. He shoved his hands into his pockets and watched as the crowd dispersed, leaving him alone as they went back to their duties. He watched the captain curiously, wondering what the man would do to him.

"So, shall I jump overboard and become a meal, or you kill me or what?" Benji the Coyote asked brightly, as if it weren't just a death sentence waiting to happen.

message 28: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Faline remained standing where she was- a few feet behind her father where they had been discussing the stranger's fate only moments before- anxious to hear his ruling.
". . . You shall not die at my hand today. Weather that is fortunate or unfortunate for you we shall see soon enough." The captain answered after a brief pause. "While you are on my ship you will abide by my rules and you will work. If you do not like that you are free to jump ship at any time, although you might want to stick around long enough to learn the conditions of such an action. You will be given a job assignment tomorrow, in the mean time my daughter will show you around and get you acquainted with the ship and the crew." He stepped closer, lowering his voice "I assure you that there are in fact things worse than death, and if you harm her in any way you shall become well acquainted with such."
Upon hearing his ruling Faline was able to breath a little easier. They hadn't ever run into such a situation before so she hadn't been sure how this would go. She watched as her father turned away from the stow away stopprd in front of her instead. "Since you seem to have such avid opinions on this I am leaving it to you to explain the situation. . . This isn't one of your storybooks Faline, it won't be as simple as you imagine it will be." Without another word he headed off to attend to his own duties.

message 29: by Anna (new)

Anna Benji held out his hands, palms facing upwards. "I wasn't planning on hurting your daughter, sir! That's not the kind of man I am." He glanced at the woman called Faline. "I promise," he told her with a slow nod. When the man walked away, Benji turned to Faline, crossing his arms and surveying the ship. "So, um...I'm Benji." He held a hand out. "Nice to meet you, Faline."
Benji wondered a lot of things. First he wondered what the captain meant about "the conditions" of jumping ship. What would be so bad about that? Drowning in the sea? Not being allowed aboard on another ship?
And what kind of job would he get? Benji wasn't very great at keeping a steady job, usually getting distracted so badly with something or someone else that he lost it. So far, he'd lost almost ten different jobs.

message 30: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments It had been so long since she had met anyone new this close and in person, over a decade for sure. The last time anyone new had come aboard was when she was still young enough to get away with hiding behind her father's pant leg sheepishly instead of extending any form of greeting. It took a brief moment for the meaning of the gesture to register and for her to extend a hand of her own to his. "It is nice to meet you as well." She offered a small smile in addition. "I apologize for my father," She quickly added. "he is set in his ways and has a bit of a flare for the dramatics."

message 31: by Anna (new)

Anna Benji shook her hand, still smiling at her. "That's alright. I mean, this is his ship, not mine. And I did just come aboard uninvited. I can also be dramatic at times, though I try not to be." He chuckled to himself, glancing around at the working sailors, his hand having already dropped back to his side. "So, your dad said to take me around? I've already been down below in part of the cargo hold so you don't need to take me there, of course."

message 32: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments "In that case you have probably already seen a good portion of the ship on your quest below . . . I am surprised you were able to sneak through without anyone noticing you sooner." Although the crew tended to stay pretty dormant while docked, there was usually always someone keeping watch. Someone had obviously slacked off. . . Of course who would of dreamed someone would come aboard. Faline started walking towards the rear of the ship, motioning him to follow. " We have three decks but just use the two upper regularly since we have such a small crew. The third is sealed off. All that is up front on this deck has to deal with navigation, there isn't much to see . . . Although sometimes the view is quite nice from up there." They neared the back, a few doors coming into view. "That door straight back leads to the Captain's quarters" She gestured to the right. "Starboard there is storage and a small library."

message 33: by Anna (new)

Anna "Oh, well, I uh," Benji stuffed his hands into his pockets as they began walking, "I kinda do that a lot. Sneak around. It's a part of me now, you see?" He followed her hands as she pointed or gestured in a particular direction, nodding and humming in response.
"How come the third deck is blocked off?" Benji asked, tilting his head towards Faline. "Ooh, and a library! Reading's quite nice, when you get the chance for it. And of course, when you have books to read."

message 34: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments "There is something to be said for harboring the gift of stealth. Not everyone possesses it. I imagine it would be quite handy in the right situation . . ." She let the statement trail off. "As for the third deck thing, there just isn't much use for it. I imagine really the only reason it is sealed off is to discourage the crew from slipping down there and evaiding their duties." She smiled slightly, thinking of at least a few crew members that she imagined would take advantage of it if available. "Would you like to see it? The library that is." Faline asked him.

message 35: by Anna (new)

Anna "And what do they say about the gift of stealth?" Benji asked, ever so politely. His hands were held behind his back as he strolled along beside her. "Of course! The library sounds fantastic. I'd love to see it." He was still curious, so he spoke up once more. "But why sealed off? Couldn't you use that for more space, such as a second cargo hold? Put it to some good use?"

message 36: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments With his confirmation Faline started to lead him in the direction of the library. She shrugged in response to his follow up question. "I believe the third deck is used for some storage as well, so it is somwhat put to use- mostly for more books that wouldn't fit in the library here and some items that have proven to be harder to sell or have less of a demand." She stopped in front of the door to the library and gave the handle a twist, letting the door drift open. She gestured for him to go in first.
She already knew why was beyond- four walls almost completely covered from floor to ceiling with shelves full of dusty books- many of them dedicated in some way to finding any sort of information on the curse they faced. There was a good number that had absolutely nothing to do with magic or curses though and were just there for enjoyment. No one tended to touch those except for Faline.

message 37: by Anna (new)

Anna Benji stepped into the library, glancing around and taking in the smell of old dusty books. Secretly, though he was a thief, one of his favorite things to do was sit and read for hours on end. He loved anything to do with books, really. With the scent in his nose, he breathed in and sighed.
"Don't you just love this book smell?" He asked Faline, glancing behind him and stepping to the side to allow her entry. This floor definitely was already amazing, he knew that much. As for the third deck, he'd go down there and see if there was a way to figure out what was below.
Benji moved to one of the shelves, running a hand across the covers and beaming. He pulled a large blue bound book out, flipping through a few of the pages. "How many books do you think you've got down here?"

message 38: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Once Benji stepped aside Faline entered the room as well. She knew practically all the titles on the shelves. She imagined that if she closed her eyes she would be able to locate a certain one without any difficulty. About the only ones she wasn't familiar with in this room were the ones spread out on the desk at the center of the room- the newest additions to the collection, some journals that her father had thought might be useful in their plight. "Im not sure. . . easily over 500." Faline answered. "She stopped by the desk, flipping a page on one of the journals that had been left open. The scrawl on the pages was messy and sort of difficult to read, causing her to quickly loose interest in it for now. ". . . The collection used to be larger even, but we recently thinned it down a little to make more room for new materials."

message 41: by Anna (new)

Anna ((Okay! And about our other one (Wild west), I'm not sure where that ended up.))

Benji ran his hands across a few more titles, taken aback by the amount and large collection they had stored in this library. He moved towards her to stand beside her and the table, examining the journals open wide and several bookmarked with scraps of paper and leather.
"That's quite a collection," Benji murmured, picking up a journal and trying to decipher the words before returning it to its place. The words were too sloppy for him as well.

"Your father," Benji began slowly, "mentioned something about the conditions of jumping ship." He glanced up at her to see if she was paying him any attention or more focused on the books. "What does that mean?"

Faline stiffened a little with his question. She had known the subject would come up eventually, but that certainly hadn't done anything to prepair her to face it. "Did he now?" She said as if it was the first she'd heard of it. She took a breath and crossed over to a shelf where she pulled out a well worn book of fairytales bound in leather that had been dyed a dark green. The golden detailing that had once covered the covers and spine had worn away in some areas and was dulled with age in others.

Benji would have waited longer to learn about the consequences, but his ever curious and determined mannerism disallowed him to do such a thing. He leaned into the bookcase behind himself and crossed his arms as she pulled one of the large books into her arms and began explaining herself.
"And are you saying that this magic in your stories is actually real? You agree that it's something that exist?" He asked with a frown.

"No, not exactly. That would be foolish. I know that the stories in here are indeed that- just stories." Faline turned and carefully put the book she was holding back in it's empty space on the shelf. She busied herself with straightening up a row that had toppled over. She didn't want to see the look on his face when she continued, she didn't want to see the moment he condemned her as crazy.
"There are however some things that logic, no matter how it is applied, can not explain. This ship . . . this crew, is bound by one of those things." She was silent a moment as she finished straightening the row of books and stood back to examine her work, wiping imaginary dust from her hands on the hem of her shirt. "Once aboard you can't leave or you will die." She stated suddenly, deciding to just rip the bandage clean off instead of further dancing around the subject. Then, seemingly happy with her work on the bookshelf and as if that last statement hadn't been said at all continued, "Well now, we should get moving again. There is still plenty of ship left to see." She turned as if to head back to and out the door of this small library.

Anna ((Thanks!))

Benji tilted his head, running a hand through his dark hair and straightening. "So...we're stuck here the rest of our lives," he stated, as if he couldn't believe a word she was telling him. Why would he? It was so unnatural to think such a thing. Logic couldn't explain this, certainly not!
"Oh, no," he whispered with a bit of fear creeping into his mind at that. Now he wasn't going to be able to free himself and protect himself from the enemy that was after him. He was in a trap. There was no way out.
Numbly, he stepped forward, following the young woman out of the library and feeling as if he had just been hit with a ship itself.

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments At first Faline was unsure if he had taken it at all seriously, or if he just thought of it as some sort of nonsense to mess with him. She spared a glance back towards him as they continued on, trying and figure out which it was. Usually others weren't so quick to accept such things, even the original crew hadn't been. It was only after about the first six deaths that they had been forced to start entertaining the thought of taking it seriously.
". . . It wasn't always like this." She said after a moment. "So we are hopeful that there must be some way to remedy it. That remedy just must first be found."

Anna "Uh, yeah, um, that would definitely be a good thing," Benji nodded absently, rubbing his wrist with his other hand. He still could not fathom the idea of one being trapped on board a ship the rest of their lives.
"Um, how long ago did it happen?" he asked, frowning and still fidgeting with his clothes and hand. It was as if he now couldn't sit still, not without letting the despair sink in. "You'd really die if you tried leaving the ship?"

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments From his nervous looking actions Faline concluded that he must have taken it somewhat seriously. That was certainly helpful on her end. When he asked how long it had been she bit the corner of her bottom lip, trying to come up with a way to make the answer seem less intimidating. She came up with no such way. ". . . It's going on ten years." She answered softly. "Our crew used to be bigger, but over the years we have lost many good people . . ." She let the statement trail off, not knowing what else to say. She hoped that was answer enough.

Anna Benji almost appeared wilted at those words. Ten years? They had had to deal with all of this for nearly ten years? He gulped and nodded, pretending it was no big deal. They'd figure out a way to stop whatever had happened and make it so they were all safe again.
"Because they...either fell off the ship or left..." he said softly, tilting his head down to the deck as they walked. "What happened to make the ship this way?"
