Would you agree that in the classroom we not only need to work on student's stamina when they are reading independently, but also when they are listening to books?
I'm not just talking about the amount of time they spend in read aloud which is normally somewhere between 10-15 mins, but also the type of writing and the subject matter.
For example, as much as I love My Friend Flicka, I wouldn't start out the school year with a book that has long sweeping descriptions of the Wyoming plains. I'd be better starting 4th graders off with something light like The Strange Case of Origami Yoda.
