To the members of this group: Hi guys, I just want to remind you guys of a few things regarding internet safety: Never divulge your personal information to someone you have met on the internet. You do not know who they really are. By the same token, do not trust me, but also, do not trust people even if they have author profiles. Being a Goodreads "author" does not make someone a trustworthy person.
Those who have set their profiles to private, that's a good policy. Also, never tell anyone your exact physical location, as in your address or a store or restaurant that you're going to be at at a certain time, and things like that, in a public forum where everybody can see.
Please take my word for it that there are people out there more devious than you can imagine, who get to kids on chat groups exactly like this one.
Aaron(Reblast) wrote: "I'm quite aware of these dangers. Thanks for posting them, Traveller."I know you are. But some of the 10-year olds around here might not be. ;)
Aaron(Reblast) wrote: "And that is a very valid point, I agree. I thought the minimal age for goodreads was 13? I guess they lie about their age."Some people open accounts for their toddlers and post for them. I can't remember if Goodreads asks your age when you join, but I have had an 11 year old friend on Goodreads. The creator of this group purports to be 10, and a lot of the members have declared themselves to be of similar ages. Of course everything might not be what it seems, but I had a while ago become aware of this : https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
and this

... and to be quite honest, it creeps me out.
