Claire walked close to Caleb as they entered the dining hall. She looked around and tried to tune out the bad feeling in her subconscious. "Is this it?"
Caleb looked around as he had a bad feeling telling him that someone one was there. He grit his teeth hard. "Yeah." He said looking around. "Usually isn't like this." He mumbled.
"Oh, that's okay. I'm used to it." Claire shrugged and sat down. She looked around, making sure there was no unwanted company.
Caleb walked over and sat down with her before a maid entered the room with a large plate of food. She smiled as she placed it down. "Enjoy your meal!" She started to walk out of the room. Caleb collected energy as much as he could and he lifted it up for her.
Claire's eyes widened. "Dear goodness. You people eat quite a bit." She laughed. She sighed a little out of relief when she didn't find anyone else and began to eat.
Claire chuckled. "Neither do I, not this much." She said sheepishly. She looked up at him with a light in her eyes, when a glass shattered in the cupboard. Just flat-out shattered.
Caleb shot his head over to where the sound came from. His eyes locked with a man. The man he absolutely hated. "Mark..." He said with clenched teeth. He got out of the chair and stood in front of Claire. Guarding her and never taking his eyes of of Mark.
Mark raised an eyebrow. "Yes?" He asked, his tone like a snake's. Claire's eyes widened. "That's him." She murmured, eyes locked on the demonic spirit. "That's the spirit from the garden."
Caleb looked at him and his fists were starting to clench. "Get out." Caleb said with his voice becoming angrier. He heard Claire and that made him only want to beat the crap out of Mark more.
"I don't have to." He laughed. "You have something here, something that's not supposed to be here. Or should I say someone." Claire furrowed her brow. Wasn't the reporter guy who Mark was after? ....Apparently not.
"I believe you are the one that isn't supposed to be here." He said quickly through his teeth. His fist clenched tighter. He became more protective of her by the minute.
"Oh please. I'm stuck here just the same as you. But the girl..." His snake-like gaze locked on Claire. Claire bit her lip as she stood up, tense.
Caleb didn't take his glare off of Mark and he tried to stop him from looking at her. He held his hand out for Claire. "You're just jealous. You have no reason to hurt her."
"Jealous of what?" He replied. Claire put her hand in his, swallowing. She looked at the guy with wide eyes.
"You know what I mean Mark." He said with a snarl. Caleb eyes turned a color of fiery ash. Partially black but with a red tint. It was shocking that he would become that angry and protective over someone.
Claire winced. "Caleb come on." She said, getting scared. "You leave you die." Mark barked.
Caleb huffed. "You can't kill her. You'd have to go through me first." He said angrily. He squeezed her hand a little and released to show that he knew she was scared.
"Oh really? You can't protect her forever, Caleb." Mark growled. Claire was confused. "What do you want?" She asked hesitantly. "You, gone."
"Who says? You? I can protect her until hell freezes over." Caleb said with his eyes narrowed at him. He wanted to run up and hit Mark but he knew that would only put Claire in more danger.
Mark, angered, moved his hand, as if shoving something away. Claire doubled over gasping, the wind suddenly whipped out of her lungs. "Good luck." He growled as he vanished in smoke.
Caleb growled and then went to Claire's side. He tried to give her air and he pressed his lips against hers as he blew in to her cold air. He did that before she looked okay. "Claire. I am so sorry. I didn't realize he would do that." He said softly.
Claire was trying to catch her breath. "It's not your fault." She replied, sitting up. She looked around for Mark.
"I can't leave." She replied, biting her lip as memories came back. "I've got nowhere to go."
"What do you mean?" He asked her as worry crossed over his face. Then he realized something, she might be going through the same thing. The thing he had gone through when he was alive.
Claire shook her head, pulling her knees to her chest. "I live here. I faked my death and ran away three years ago." She wiped her eyes and took a deep breath. She had never told anyone else that. Ever.
Caleb nodded as he scooted next to her to give her a hug. He didn't ask anymore questions. He just kept silent. He felt like he could partially relate. Before his death, he had a pretty rough life.
Claire hesitated before leaning against him. Chills shot through her body, but she didn't care. "I can't leave." She said again.
Caleb nodded. "I know how you feel." He mumbled under his breath. He rubbed his hand up and down her arm.
"You do?" She asked, glancing at him.
He nodded slowly. "I know I shouldn't be here. I am supposed to have passed on. But I can't." He said to her.
Claire's eyes widened. How could I have missed the signs? She thought. "Then how..." Claire was confused. She had never been able to touch a spirit before.
He closed his eyes, afraid to face her. "I-I am stronger then the other spirits." He said. "I'm like Mark. Only difference is that I am a light spirit, he is a dark soul."
Claire swallowed nervously, afraid of what she was about to do. She grabbed his collar and kissed him. When she pulled away, she blushed. She wasn't normally that bold. "I'm sorry." She stood up quickly and ran out of the dining hall.
Caleb was a little shocked and hen he finally snapped out of his daze. "Claire wait!" He said as he ran after her.
Claire ran to her room and closed the door. She forgot that Caleb could just go through, but that was the least of her thoughts at the moment. She plopped into a chair and sighed, putting her head in her hands.
