Mystery and post apocalypse are my favorite genres and so of course my favorite categories but I especially liked the Goodreads 2018 Award nominees. I'm usually trying to catch up on older books and don't get around to the newer ones until they are old. I agree with you about the graphic novels. Probably would not have tried them otherwise. (Although I did read The Watchmen long ago because it was on the 1001 books list.) My other favorite was finger crushers. I'll put off reading a book just because it is so long. So now I have finally read a few on my to read list.
Some of the categories were very easy for me - mysteries, books in a series, mythical creatures - as those are some of my favorite types of books to read. A surprise favorite was Nobel Prize-Winning Authors. It made me read several books that have been on my TBR for years and they are now some of my favorites. I've struggled the most with post-apocalyptic, which I didn't expect. I still have 2 to go. I'll get them read, but I thought I would have finished that category much earlier.
I have to admit that I just let the whole challenges thing drop this year. I've not been reading at anything like my usual level, and not spending much time here, either. Both of those things are not unrelated to the amount of the year we have spent traveling.
All good stuff, my book buddies! I usually get through the Mysteries and the Historical Fiction first, and I never get all the Finger Crushers read.... Maybe a goal for next year???Speaking of next year, I about to post my annual message about categories and votes and all that jazz. Here's to a satisfying 2019 and looking forward to seeing what you all have to suggest for 2020 categories!
Same Rebecca!! I read 120 books last year I think and this year I’m at 38 right now lol. Not sure why my motivation fell.
On a different note I felt that I had a bunch of books on my list never getting read because they didn’t fit the categories, so I decided to read some of the books that had been on my tbr the longest and if they fit a category, good, and if not we’ll then that’s ok too. It also allowed me to read what I was in the mood for instead of what fit the challenge that month.
My favourite categories are usually the easiest. Love the mythical creatures! I am pleased one of my suggestions was well liked! I also like Sci fi and historical fiction.
