“Nice. I can show you around if you want!” Chelsea says, “I’ve been at camp pretty much all my life. So, I know it like the back of my hand!”
“Oh, well um these are the beds.” Chelsea says and points to the beds. “The bathroom is over there.” She points towards a door. “Then there is the inside garden greenhouse thing over there.” She says and points to where she was working before. “Then last. But not least the lounge.” She says and points to a few chairs and couches in the corner of the cabin. “It’s not much, but it’s home!” She says with a smile.
“Wow” Annie says very sarcastically. “Look I’m sorry if you feel like I am being mean to you, I just had a rough bus ride.” Annie wipes her eyes like she is crying. “Which is my bed?”
“Nah, it’s fine. Your not being rude.” Chelsea says. Then she says “You can have this bed I guess.” She points to the one two away from hers.
“Um, well there’s me. And a few others. Maybe six of us in all. Well, now seven because of you.” Chelsea says. “And you’ll meet them eventually. They’re all out right now at the strawberry field right now.”
“STRAWBERRY FIELD?” Annie flops on her bed sobbing. Mumbling “why Dad? Why’d you make me come here?” Annie’s tears make the pillow become cold and sopping
“Yeah, the strawberry field.” Chelsea says. Then she hears Annie’s comment and says “It’s fine. Camp is actually pretty fun. No need to cry.”
“I’M DEADLY ALLERGIC TO STR-“ Annie continues to sob. “Str-straw-strawberries... And I have to stay here all summer without my mom and my dad just HAD to send me because of his new honeymoon and-and... my new mom...” Annie goes blank.
“Oh, if your allergic you don’t have to help. The camp would never make you do anything.” Chelsea says, then thinks about her parents.... she never knew her them. At least Annie had parents to care for her, even it was a step-mom.
“Yeah-not me. I’m not that goodie two shoes everyone knows in a good way like you. I am that goth-y person everyone knows and hates and that’s why I have now real friends. And my dad just sent me here ‘cause he has his honeymoon with his new wife. And my mom... my mom...” Annie closes her eyes. “Is gone now”
“Yeah, no one is a goodie two shoes either. Everyone comes to camp feeling out of place, but then after a while, everything’s better.” Chelsea says.
