The novel Where the Mountain Meets the Moon is a fascinating story about a young girl who faces a challenging journey filled with mystically characters and facing a choice that determines her families future regarding their fortune. Minli is the main character who is brave and makes the journey for her family and meets a companion on the way who ends up changing the fate of her families fortune. This was a very happy novel and enjoyable to follow along to because of all the fascinating characters and symbolism. Symbolism was a big factor in this novel along with the heavy theme of the importance of family and friends. Through her relationships,
I felt that Minli realized a fortune is not what her family needs and money is not what brings happiness, but is it helping others, forming relationships, and putting others before yourself is what creates happiness. I enjoyed that theme of the novel because that is important to me and my life. It had a different ending than I expected and that determines a good novel to me because I like the unexpected and not a predictable story.
