I know that I'm not a very active member of this club and I'm sorry if I'm wasting your time, but I just need some outlet for my frustration about this year's Finalists.
Upon the first time I browsed through the list of books that made into the Finals I took notice of how many of those I found interesting in the first round fell out and how many series have stayed. So just out of curiosity I decided to count them.
6/10 Mystery and Thriller 8/10 Fantasy 6/10 Romance 6/10 Horror 6/10 Middle Grade and Children And the most alarming is: 9/10 Young adult Sci-fi and fantasy
Above I listed only those categories where the number of books belonging to series is more than half of the number of nominees.
I find these numbers worrying because these categories are some of the most read ones and also because this begs the question: are these really the best books of 2014?
