The Obstacle for the games are here! 20 obstacles for the 2020 year!

Some Tips, Hints, and Reminders

- If you read an "obstacle book" you get TRIPLE points for your personal score. If one of your books land in an obstacle the breakdown goes like this:

100 pages to 499 pages: 3 point (normally just 1 point)
500 pages to 999 pages: 6 points (normally just 2 points)
1,000 and plus pages: 9 points (normally just 3 points)

You can so the same obstacle multiple times, but each time it must be a different book. So, for Obstacle 4 (a 2020 release) I can read 5 2020 releases and count them all under that obstacle!

However, books can only fit into ONE obstacle - so choose wisely :) & yes, you can swap em around as the game goes on.

AND Remember!! Obstacle books are more points and it is easier than you think to put in books for the obstacle! Some just magically fall into place.

Obstacles

Obstacle 1: The 1st book in a series.

Obstacle 2: A book from a genre you do not normally read from and CANNOT be a fiction novel - however, IT CAN BE a sub genre of fiction like Historical fiction and sic-fi, fantasy to others like poetry, memoirs, self-help, etc. If poetry is chosen, it can be under the 100 page minimum as most books are under that page length.

Obstacle 3: Read a book recommended by another person participating in the games! Can be a team member, or someone form another team.

Obstacle 4: Read a book that is published in 2020.

Obstacle 5: Read a book that is from a physical stash somewhere in your space.

Obstacle 6: Read a "Classic." You can interpret classic however you like.

Obstacle 7: Read a book you meant to read in 2019.

Obstacle 8: Read a book by an author whose first and last names start with the same letter.

Obstacle 9: Read a book that is based on a true story.

Obstacle 10: Read a book with no chapters, unusual chapter headings, or unconventionally numbered chapters.

Obstacle 11: Read the first book you touch on a shelf with your eyes closed.

Obstacle 12: Read a book with a map - looooove me a good map inside a book.

Obstacle 13: Read an Anthology. Get that 9 pointer!

Obstacle 14: Read a collection of short stories. Must be one authors work. If it is multiple authors, that would count under an anthology (Obstacle 13).

Obstacle 15: Read book on a subject you know nothing about.

Obstacle 16: Read a book with at least a four-star rating on Goodreads.

Obstacle 17: Read a banned book.

Obstacle 18: Read a book by an author who has written more than 20 books.

Obstacle 19: Read a book where the title starts with a letter in COFFEE AND BOOKS.

Obstacle 20: Read a book from C&B's Archives - check the Book Shelf for all of our past books!
