Sky | 1291 comments Yeah, that was a cool scene. Did both the runs happen in this section?

That reminds me of something to post in the spoiler allowed thread

terpkristin I liked that scene a lot, but in retrospect, it was kind of obvious/formulaic. (view spoiler)

I still liked it, though.

Bill | 1596 comments The idea in the first run was Teia's but she had Kip take credit so people would continue to underestimate her.

terpkristin But it was the underdog group.

And while Teia is one of my favorite characters, you really don't see how her unique skills are anything other than a hinderance until Book 3. Even though she was fairly highly rated, she was still a physical underdog and semi-handicapped, light-wise.

Bill | 1596 comments I have never played mtg or any other of that type card game so thos scenes were a little hard for me to follow.

Linette | 135 comments The decks based on specific colours is straight from MTG.

Well, I think I like Gunner as a character. Guy's got brains, brass, and he's kinda funny too. Can't wait to see what happens when he crosses the Prism's path again.

But the most interesting character for me so far, Janus Borig, gets killed off. Early. Really? I'm disappointed, I think her contributions to the story could have been excellent. At least she left her special cards behind. :)

That Shimmercloak Vox guy creeped me out, with all his stalker thoughts.

I liked the contrast of approaches to the coin test. I also liked how the top student (forget his name) smoothed over any hard feelings the other students might have had. Shows how good of a leader he's going to be.

And I'm with you Linette. Very upset Janus is dead. And the dying prophecy: "you're the lightbringer", which if true would be a surprise to no one.

I'm hoping it's a red herring though, because I still don't like Kip. He's gotten a lttle better, but not much.

And I definitely saw the magic the gathering connection in this section a lot more than the previous one.

Yeah, you're right she didn't say Kip was the Lightbringer, but it sure as hell seemed implied, and I hope it's not true.

I totally forgot to bring up the cloaks. Janus has him take them. One of them is quite small. In fact the guy commented on how it got damaged and would only fit a small person now.

You know whose small? Teia. So I fully expect Kip and Teia to be rocking those cloaks at some point. No idea how they work, but using an usual type of drafting (hey Teia again!) might be the key.

Just saying..
