Brenda | 2431 comments This thread is where you can chat about all things PIFM, ask questions and once books have been read, review your selected reads. A complete free for all.

PLEASE NOTE:

PIFM is meant to be FUN and not to be taken seriously. I would appreciate it if all participants just chilled and not get worked up about voting, who votes, who doesn't, etc. Please bear in mind that some will just want to vote, many don't come on everyday and most of us have time constraints. I just want a relaxed approach to it all and for you all to just enjoy the process! I'd really appreciate your courtesy in this matter. Many thanks.

Brenda | 2431 comments I made an executive decision to post the January threads for PIFM in hopes that Janet would have one less thing to do at this time. I hope I got the threads right!

message 3: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Brenda, this is a good idea. Janet is probably up to her ears in family matters.

message 4: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 5526 comments Brenda that’s a great idea

message 5: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis Who can believe it is almost January already!
Today was the last school day for me! Yay! Now we get a 2 week break. Hoping to do lots of reading.

message 6: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Vicki, I can truly empathize with you. It has been a few years since I taught 7th grade but any break was a relief. Although I loved the kids, the work was draining and the break was wonderful.

message 7: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2431 comments Kudos to Vicki and Patricia, and all teachers, really. Teachers have long been vilified for being paid "too much" and not working a full year. I'm glad to see teachers unions striking for raises and improved conditions in their schools. I also believe it's despicable that teachers have to spend their own money for items needed in classrooms. School budgets should provide proper funding. How does our society get so many things upside down and backward? (Sorry. Rant mode off.)

message 8: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (meldoc) | 634 comments Thank you so much for voting twice for me this month. It’s already working out well. I’m amazed and this is fun. I’ll update my list as votes come in.

So far I have this reading order:

1. Open Season
2. The Keepsake
(These two are tied but Open Season has an additional vote for 2nd read so I’m using it as a tiebreaker)
3. The Red Queen
4. Messenger of Truth
5/6. The Memory Weaver & The View from Alameda Island (0 votes)

message 9: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis That is cool Melanie!

Thank you Brenda! A little appreciation does wonders for the mind.

message 10: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2431 comments Craig, if you've found this Chatter thread, I gotta tell you those are some awesome sounding books! I didn't pick Dugoni or Viskic because I will definitely be reading those two, but Our Little Cruelties appealed the most to me. I hope it wins, but in any case, I'll be looking for your review!

Melanie (meldoc) | 634 comments Welcome t the group Craig. I’m heading off to a Christmas party but will vote for Craig and Perri sometime soon.

Thanks for the votes everyone💖

With new votes my reading order remains the same. I always find voting interesting. Open Season and the Keepsake are definite favourites. I’ve never read CJ Box but the author was recommended to me so I’m looking forward to it.

message 12: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis I have never read CJ Box either Melanie. But I see that author name all over the place. I will be watching for you review when you get to it.

message 13: by Tonya (new)

Tonya (tonyasmith) | 693 comments I have read Open Season. I really enjoyed it. I hope you do as well.

message 14: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (meldoc) | 634 comments Happy Christmas Season to you all. I finished my reading challenge last night. That was just under the wire I’d say. Thanks for a great year of making reading more fun with friends💖

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments My winner is No Ocean Too Wide. I began reading it yesterday and it is wonderful. Thank you for selecting this one.

message 18: by Tonya (new)

Tonya (tonyasmith) | 693 comments My winner for January will be The Art of Racing in the Rain. But I have to finish The Secret Keeper before January 1st.

message 19: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2431 comments Looks like my winner is For Reasons Unknown. I will probably start it when I'm done with my current book. Fingers crossed that it's a good one!

message 20: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis My book for January will be Dear Wife by Kimberly Belle . I have 2 I want to finish before year's end and then I will start with that one.

message 21: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I just now posted my choices --- please vote!!

message 22: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2431 comments 😂, Kirsten! At least you didn’t wait until the last minute! And now I have a tie, which is OK, I’ll just read both books.

No problem, Sean. PIFM has been going so strong, I hated to see it miss a month.

I'm sorry I haven't been around. It's been a difficult time. Still like I'm playing catch up. Haven't read anything in months so am nowhere in completing the GR challenge. Hope you're all ok and enjoying your reads.

Happy New Year to you all and many thanks for your kind words of support. It meant a lot.

message 28: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Happy New Year to all of you.

Hopefully,, I will read a little more this year. My TBR is getting larger and larger.

message 29: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis Happy New Year everyone!

Yes, Patricia... It seems like whenever I do any challenges to lower the TBR (this one or any one), my TBR goes UP!
Too many good books and recommendations out there!

Janet, you are so very welcome. Glad I could help. I hope all is well with you.

message 31: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2431 comments Happy New Year, everyone! And happy reading! I’m looking forward to lots of great books this year.

message 32: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis For those of your who listen to audible. There is a challenge where if you listen to 3 audible by March 3, you get a $20 Amazon credit. I just logged into my audible account and it looks legit!

message 33: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2431 comments Is it weird that I'm reading one of my PIFM losers before I read the two that tied for winner?

message 34: by Perri (new)

Perri | -50 comments Nah, I've seen one is going to be a loser so gone ahead and read it!

message 35: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (penn_y_lane) | 547 comments I've read my 1st and 2nd place books (though I see I had another vote which made The Institute joint 1st but this is no longer a library book as I was given it for Xmas so no hurry now to return to the library) both were very good Violet by S.J.I. Holliday and Cilka's Journey (The Tattooist of Auschwitz, #2) by Heather Morris and recommended

I have now started To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers as it's a novella and I should finish it tonight so I can return 4 to the library tomorrow.

Next up will be the 3rd choice Ice Cold Heart (Monkeewrench, #10) by P.J. Tracy

message 36: by Patricia (last edited Jan 06, 2020 04:06PM) (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments I just finished my January winner, No Ocean Too Wide (McAlister Family #1) by Carrie Turansky No Ocean Too Wide. I HIGHLY recommend this one. This is one of the best books I've read in years.

message 37: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (penn_y_lane) | 547 comments Oh and Happy New Year to you all !!

message 38: by Perri (new)

Perri | -50 comments Tonya wrote: "My winner for January will be The Art of Racing in the Rain. But I have to finish The Secret Keeper before January 1st."

Tonya, I have a three way tie, do you want to break for me?

message 39: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2431 comments Patricia, I'm glad your winner was indeed a winner!

message 40: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 5526 comments Vicki Willis I read that book called Dear Wife by Kimberly Belle

message 41: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis What did you think about it Christine?

message 42: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2431 comments Since I had a tie for January, I thought I’d read both books. One down, one to go. I just finished For Reasons Unknown. I definitely will be continuing with the series.

message 43: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Brenda, that sounds like a good one. I am reading my second place winner also, Warning Light. Ironically, it is about a plane that has an emergency landing in Iran. Definitely a thriller.

Brenda | 2431 comments Patricia wrote: "Brenda, that sounds like a good one. I am reading my second place winner also, Warning Light. Ironically, it is about a plane that has an emergency landing in Iran. Definitely a thr..."

How does it feel to read a fiction book that relates to current real world events at the same time? Not sure I could handle that!

message 45: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Brenda, the book includes some history of Iran which is very interesting. Zac Miller, the protagonist, is a CIA plant who is duplicated by the Iranians through some ingenious methods. Good book, so far.

Since I have some Iranian friends, I am glad I have an opportunity to read this. I will probably pass it on to one of them.

message 46: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (penn_y_lane) | 547 comments Finished my 3rd choice book Ice Cold Heart (Monkeewrench, #10) by P.J. Tracy which was as enjoyable as ever, I do enjoy this series. Not sure what to pick next but probably The Migration by Helen Marshall

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments I just finished Warning Light (Jake Keller #1) by David Ricciardi . A thrilling chase story I highly recommend. A real page turner that raises your blood pressure.

message 49: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 5526 comments Vicki Willis I really liked that book called Dear Wife by Kimberly Belle
