I think something might be wrong with me... I've read reviews where people said this book was just too dark. I don't think it's a bad book, but I didn't find it scary or dark.

Like most Stephen King books I've read, it could have been shorter. The audiobook was over 18 hours long, actually... kinda short for King. I did love Santino Fontana as the narrator and that may be why I listened to all of it.

I wanted to know what happened to the kids and everything but I wasn't invested in the story. It's not great but not terrible?

Darcy | 3 comments The darkest part of the book in my opinion was how the kids were treated and pushed around like cattle. So I get why people would say it's dark, though that was the only reason.

The story almost felt more like The Green Mile since it wasn't spooky. It had several different characters who collided at some point because of this crazy institution and a few of them had special powers.

If you're invested in the characters' well being, then I think the author does a great job of drawing you in.

I loved the characters and enjoyed the moments when the children were children then a moment later, were making adult decisions.

That's a good point about how the kids were treated. Maybe it didn't click for me because there were so many points where they did act like adults... or something is wrong with my brain! I do have to admit that while reading this book I was also trying so hard to finish It, and boy did I really dislike Stephen King during most of that book.

I did quite enjoy the beginning (had to google Night Knocker lol) and the introduction of Luke and his parents. The other point I remember really enjoying was the big shoot out.
