1. When visiting Nigeria’s capital city Abuja, it is impossible to miss Zuma Rock. Standing at 725 meters (2,379 ft) it majestically presides over the surrounding landscape. It is one of the tallest natural monoliths in the world and among Nigeria’s iconic natural wonders.

2. Zuma Rock is surrounded by myth and legends and visitors often notice an unusual silence when traveling in the area. Composed of gabbro and granodiorite, the natural surface of the rock depicts the image of a human face looking straight ahead in the direction of the setting sun. The native Gawri believe the face represents the ancestral powers protecting and governing the community. They also acknowledge the rock as a gateway to the afterlife and believe that when people die their spirits go to the rock.
