I am excited that we're reading With the Fire on High for book club! I have read both of Elizabeth Acevedo's YA novels and have read some of her poetry. I want to read all of her poetry. If you like audiobooks, I highly recommend listening to With the Fire on High. Acevedo narrates it herself, which added to my enjoyment of the book.
I loved The Poet X. I’m definitely looking forward to reading this selection. All of my friends who have already read it, reviewed and rated it very high. Great cover too.
I've never read anything by Acevedo before, and to be quite honest, I probably wouldn't have if it wasn't a book club book. So far the synopses of her novels haven't really entranced me enough to give them a try.I'm also not particularly a fan of domestic fiction featuring teen moms. It stresses me out so much because adulting is hard and doing it as a teenager is even harder so no thank you. Also, I despise that her child's name is Babygirl. I'm big on names, and if I don't like one then I hardly feel endeared to the character right away.
