How My Book Fit the Task: This is a science fiction book. There has been a CME (coronal mass ejection) - charged particle ejections after a solar flare. It has knocked out all electricity. The main character, Jay, is faced with a dilemma. His wife, a commercial pilot whose plane was in the direct path of the CME is possibly dead and he has lost all contact with his daughter who is attending college in another state. With no way to communicate, he must decide whether to go in search of his daughter or his wife.
