An event in the story that really shows the author's skill in writing is when Lily finds out about her mother's previous existence in the honey house she has been living in. Sue Monk Kidd does an excellent job at pulling the strings of our emotions through the perspective of Lily. Going through the journey Lily has been through, we can understand why Lily receives emotional distress after finding this important piece of information from May. Lily's actions of curling up into a ball in bed and the relatable understanding that when your body takes such a blow even mentally it's going to want to rest really emphasizes the author's ability to make her work realistic and relatable to the audience which allows for the reader to have a sympathetic outlook for Lily.
