The Masks and More Book Club discussion

During our last hang-out, we were asked "will Christopher Reeve always be everyone's Superman?" It's his face that comes to my mind when I'm asked about Superman. The Superman movie series that began in 1978 is ingrained as part of my childhood. They still bring a lot of nostalgia for me. I suppose it's possible that a new actor could supplant Christopher Reeve as Superman in my mind, but it won't be easy. That said, I'm excited to see what Warner Bros. will do despite not loving Man of Steel.

How about all of you? Will Christopher Reeve always be the iconic Superman, is it someone else, or no one? I'm curious what others think.

Christopher Reeve. No one else will do. All others are mere shadows and gussets.

Great minds, Ez, great minds. I wonder if we'll have a dissenting opinion about the choice of Superman?

Dean Cain. And not because I went through a phase in my early teens where I looked like him, complete with mini-quiff.

Never been a big Supes fan - the character never really grabbed me - but I did enjoy the Adventures of Lois and Clark.

I think my wife would agree with you, Alex. I was never a big Superman fan either, bu there's something about those Superman movies, particularly Superman and Superman II, that are such a part of my childhood.

Ah, see, I missed the Christopher Reeve movies (and was never drawn to go back and watch them) but I grew up with the Dean Cain/Teri Hatcher TV series, and a little bit of Smallville - yes, I know...

Then the new Superman movies kind of ruined it for everyone.
