I loved the end of the episode. I have been obsessing about how they were going to do that since I watched the last episode of season 4. I was worried I was not going to be able to watch that. I am happy with the way they changed it so that I wasn't completely freaking out. Anyone notice who they got to play William Mackenzie? Loved that they did that.
I was interrupted so many times while watching this I didn't realize who was playing William McKinsey until the talk at the end. I am glad they did that. Ah poor Roger :( Also I loved the emotion surrounding Murtaugh's death. They did it well and I like his story line as played out here much better than in the book. It was heartbreaking but had real closure.
Even though I thought Murtaugh should not have been in the story this long I did like how they handled it in this episode.
I watched the episode twice last night but couldn't tell who played William Mackenzie. Who was it? This was an emotional episode. I wonder how much they will stick to the book with Roger.
I don’t think they are deviating from the book on Roger’s story. I think they intentionally left him out of the next episodes previews to leave people wondering. There are two weeks to the next episode.
Graham McTavish (Dougal McKinsey) Played William because Dougal was Williams actual father and Geillis was his mother. In the book they thought Roger was dead but he actually was not so I believe that is how they are going to proceed with that line.

I still think that Sophie isn't up to snuff with the other actors, and I even think Cait is fading. Sam was remarkable.
I like all the actors. I think they do a good job. I’m not a fan of Bree but I found her to be rather annoying in the books.
Cait was never "my Claire" but she had me in season 2 when she lost Faith. That really moved me and I see her as Claire now. Sam has always been awesome as Jaime and this episode was magnificent!
Lots of excitement and intrigue in every episode, but, it breaks my heart to say that Claire has not evolved much and its the same contained acting, same gestures, same everything - we all evolve and grow, I'm not seeing it. Sophie, geesh there's a lot coming and I just don't see it. Roger has evolved and Jamie / Sam have risen to the occasion. Claire / Cat has bothered me for a long time to be honest, there's just something very patronizing, I know what's going on and you don't when it comes to Jamie and it ticks me off. There was a time when I couldn't wait for the next episode, now I tape and watch when I feel like it. Hope that changes.
I’m not sure I agree with that. Yes they change things for the show but I do believe they are trying to capture the essence of the book. I am not a fan of Bree. I don’t think her character has a lot of growth. I don’t see that as being Sophie’s fault. As for Cait I think she has captured the essence of what Claire is.
If my husband were hanging from a tree, I think I would do more than stare in horror. I don't sense much chemistry between Bree and Roger. Nothing like the steaming chemistry between Claire and Jamie.
I don't know I get paralyzed in shock in situations that are intense and don't react like I think I should. I would like to think that I would do more but in reality I might not.
I think they wanted to leave everyone with a feeling of shock at the end of the episode. There was a whole lot more to this in the book. This was the one thing I was really worried about watching this season. I have to say I don’t think I could have watched if they did it like it was in the book.

Bree in particular seems in shock. I do agree that the chemistry between Roger and Bree could be better - she seems to have more chemistry with Lord John and obviously there's nothing romantic going on between them.

Patsy wrote: "I agree, Pat! She does have great chemistry with Lord John!"I am of that opinion also. Better chemistry than she has with Roger, I think.
When Lord John said last season that he would marry her, I thought “yes, please”. One can dream...

This is how it was originally posted months before the season was released. I never changed it when they changed things.
