Diane | 1360 comments I heard it was going to be a good one! I can't wait to watch it tomorrow.

MichaelCollins | 819 comments It was good -- pretty violent tho!

Janet (janaran) | 50 comments Very emotional. Your heartstrings were vibrating in this episode.

message 6: by Roseanne (last edited Mar 30, 2020 04:46AM) (new)

Roseanne | 229 comments I loved the end of the episode. I have been obsessing about how they were going to do that since I watched the last episode of season 4. I was worried I was not going to be able to watch that. I am happy with the way they changed it so that I wasn't completely freaking out.

Anyone notice who they got to play William Mackenzie? Loved that they did that.

message 7: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments I was interrupted so many times while watching this I didn't realize who was playing William McKinsey until the talk at the end. I am glad they did that. Ah poor Roger :( Also I loved the emotion surrounding Murtaugh's death. They did it well and I like his story line as played out here much better than in the book. It was heartbreaking but had real closure.

message 8: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 229 comments Even though I thought Murtaugh should not have been in the story this long I did like how they handled it in this episode.

message 9: by MichaelCollins (new)

MichaelCollins | 819 comments In the books Roger survives?? Just curious as to how they will play this out!

message 10: by Sherri (new)

Sherri (skielbasa) | 5 comments I watched the episode twice last night but couldn't tell who played William Mackenzie. Who was it? This was an emotional episode. I wonder how much they will stick to the book with Roger.

message 11: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 229 comments I don’t think they are deviating from the book on Roger’s story. I think they intentionally left him out of the next episodes previews to leave people wondering. There are two weeks to the next episode.

message 12: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments Graham McTavish (Dougal McKinsey) Played William because Dougal was Williams actual father and Geillis was his mother.

In the book they thought Roger was dead but he actually was not so I believe that is how they are going to proceed with that line.

message 13: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 27 comments Okay, who played William MacKensie?

Diane | 1360 comments Lauren wrote: "Okay, who played William MacKensie?"

The actor that played Dougal

I agree, and I like that they used his line from the book "death doesn't hurt". Something like that anyway.

I still think that Sophie isn't up to snuff with the other actors, and I even think Cait is fading. Sam was remarkable.

message 17: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 229 comments I like all the actors. I think they do a good job. I’m not a fan of Bree but I found her to be rather annoying in the books.

message 18: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments Cait was never "my Claire" but she had me in season 2 when she lost Faith. That really moved me and I see her as Claire now. Sam has always been awesome as Jaime and this episode was magnificent!

message 19: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Kollo | 23 comments Lots of excitement and intrigue in every episode, but, it breaks my heart to say that Claire has not evolved much and its the same contained acting, same gestures, same everything - we all evolve and grow, I'm not seeing it. Sophie, geesh there's a lot coming and I just don't see it. Roger has evolved and Jamie / Sam have risen to the occasion. Claire / Cat has bothered me for a long time to be honest, there's just something very patronizing, I know what's going on and you don't when it comes to Jamie and it ticks me off. There was a time when I couldn't wait for the next episode, now I tape and watch when I feel like it. Hope that changes.

message 20: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 229 comments I’m not sure I agree with that. Yes they change things for the show but I do believe they are trying to capture the essence of the book. I am not a fan of Bree. I don’t think her character has a lot of growth. I don’t see that as being Sophie’s fault. As for Cait I think she has captured the essence of what Claire is.

Patsy | 25 comments If my husband were hanging from a tree, I think I would do more than stare in horror. I don't sense much chemistry between Bree and Roger. Nothing like the steaming chemistry between Claire and Jamie.

message 22: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments I don't know I get paralyzed in shock in situations that are intense and don't react like I think I should. I would like to think that I would do more but in reality I might not.

message 23: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 229 comments I think they wanted to leave everyone with a feeling of shock at the end of the episode. There was a whole lot more to this in the book. This was the one thing I was really worried about watching this season. I have to say I don’t think I could have watched if they did it like it was in the book.

As I recall from the book, all three of them stand in horror for several seconds when they see that it's Roger. Bree in particular seems in shock. I do agree that the chemistry between Roger and Bree could be better - she seems to have more chemistry with Lord John and obviously there's nothing romantic going on between them.

I fully agree, I think they wanted to leave us terrified and with that feeling of shock, even thought, they accomplished it!!

message 26: by Patsy (new)

Patsy | 25 comments I agree, Pat! She does have great chemistry with Lord John!

message 27: by Patsy (new)

Patsy | 25 comments Roseanne and Pat, I see your points. I read all of the books but it's been awhile.

Beth_A Warren | 78 comments Patsy wrote: "I agree, Pat! She does have great chemistry with Lord John!"

I am of that opinion also. Better chemistry than she has with Roger, I think.

When Lord John said last season that he would marry her, I thought “yes, please”. One can dream...

Beth_A Warren | 78 comments Diane wrote: "TBA"

Famous Last Words is episode 8, not part of the title of episode 7, which is just The Ballad of Roger Mac.

message 30: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments This is how it was originally posted months before the season was released. I never changed it when they changed things.

message 31: by Beth_A (new)

Beth_A Warren | 78 comments Ok, sorry, then it was them who created the confusion
