Erika M | 32 comments I really liked this book because it is very funny and i learned a very good lesson. For example this book is funny because of the drawings. This shows that just by looking at some of the drawings that Arnold makes it makes you laugh. One example of a lesson I learned is that I should be thankful for what I have . This shows that i should be thankful because other people don't have what I have like a good school.
No, I don't think this book should be banned because this book can inspire a lot of people. For example this book can inspire people to stand up for their selves. Another example is that this book can inspire other people to never give up on their dreams. This shows that this book is a very inspiring book because it gives us lessons in life.

Wilton G | 12 comments I enjoyed the book because besides the drawings and Arnold's sense of humor was funny the book taught me a lesson. It showed me with hope and confidence you can accomplish anything even if their obstacles in your way Arnold was able to overcome them. Also i enjoyed the book because the book if describing the way indians live what their living condition is and how most indians drink by the age at 8.
I don't think this book should be banned because this book is showing us the readers how indians are treated and they can't do anything about it because they don't have hope. Also another reason why it shouldn't be banned because this book can inspire people letting them know that giving up isn't the way to go. You need to try to your best in order to be do be able to follow your dreams in life.

Alexp | 1 comments I enjoyed the book because it had many funny moments in the book where I have also learned many lessons from reading the book. one lesson I had learned was from one part of the book when Arnold and Penelope went to prom, he had never told his friends that he was poor because he was embarrassed to say anything. Then after the prom was over, they went to IHops even though he had no money, and when they found out they helped Arnold. This showed that by not telling people your problem they cannot help you. One part that was funny yet still taught me something was from a cartoon he drew that showed how he got home everyday when he had no money. This also taught me that that poor people have a difficult time with just getting around.

In many schools they have banned this book for many reason. Yet I believe that schools should still allow kids to read it. Although it has a lot of strong and fowl words, it still teaches people many lessons about how to live life and how to never give up hope. Still there are many books that teach this lessons well, but it also contains many words that people would normally say. Many books sugar coat the lines and it shows how cruel people and places can be.

The reasons that I enjoyed it is because Arnold has a great sense of humor and loves drawing which can experience his feelings, I feel that it is important to explain your feelings in one way or another. The other reason I feel that Sherman Alexie wrote an important book that everyone can relate to is that. It teaches you ways to live life such as never giving up even when everything is against you.
I feel that everyone should read this book and it should be aloud in school because it tells kids how thing needs to change and that no one deserves this. It is also so we don't make the same mistake and have stereotypes about a people and religious and we learn from the mistakes people make around us.

Sydney | 16 comments I really enjoyed ATD. It was funny, different, touching, and very real. Arnold was exactly like any teenage boy would be and its funny for that to be reflected in a book for teen/school readers. Other from the obvious humor in the book its also extremely sad and depressing sometimes. Arnold is living on a poverty bound reservation so it would defiantly show in a negative way in some aspects. The drawings for example is a funny add-on to the book but most of these picture has a bigger meaning thats actually very upsetting about Arnold's life.
I can understand why this book is banned from some schools but it shouldn't be. Students my age are probably blocked from these lifestyles almost as though they don't exist, which isn't right. People like in ATD do exist and they deserve for people to understand and know what they're going through. Sure, the book is (highly) inappropriate but there is real valuable lessons all throughout the book, Bulimia, poverty, racism, alcoholism, and just plainly how reservation life is. This book truly deserves to be read by at least 8th graders for a better matured audience.

Kayla | 2 comments I really like the book atd because it shows important changes/lessons and the book is relatable.for example in the text it states how his grandmother died from a drunk driver this is relatable for some people due to the alcoholism or death of a loved one.another example is in the beginning of the book Arnold was shy and isolated himself from the world but at the end he learned how to live life and be happy/open-mined.
I do not believe that it is necessary to have this book banned from school because it has multiple good valuable lessons that kids or teen can walk away with and taking this away from them is like giving up.for example if there was a child going through the same issue as Arnold this could help them move passed the issue and try to have a better life and believe in themselves because when they see Arnold chasing his dream then they might think well so can i and thats the point to help kids go further in life.
