Ann Patchett is a wonderful author of many fiction books but has also made a living as a non-fiction writer, writing several articles for magazines. This books is a collection of some of those stories which describe aspects of her life making the book a sort of memoir.

She is also the owner of a bookstore in Nashville Tennessee and if you are ever looking for book suggestions, she makes several in her blog

Aside from an NPR interview she did with Terry Gross, I was completely unfamiliar with Patchett before starting this book. The link presents both the audio interview and some excerpts when she talks about her first marriage at 24 and subsequent relationship with Karl. Since she discusses her first marriage and Karl throughout the book, it'll give us a bit more context before we meet next week.
