The History Challenge
Read through LGBTQ history

How does it work?
You read one book every month related to some part of LGBTQ history.
Re-reads allowed. No minimum page requirement.

Duration
One year, from whenever you start.

January
January first, the beginning of a new year full of change.
Read any book published in the previous year.

February
Black history month.
Ready any book about or written by a LGBTQ of color.

March
On March 31 we celebrate International Transgender Day of Visibility. It's dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide.
Read any book about trans issues, a transgender person or written by a transgender person.

April
First of April 2001, the same-sex marriage bill takes effect. The Netherlands are the first country in the world to extend their marriage laws.
Read a book about marriage, tradition or change. Or that contains those words in the title.

May
Harvey Milk is born on May 22, 1930.
Read a biographical work of any LGBTQ person.

June
Stonewall riots in 1969.
Read a book about the riots or any other protest. Or a book about/written in the 60s or 70s.

July
The Declaration of Montreal on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Human Rights is a document adopted in Montreal (Canada) on July 29 2006 by the International Conference on LGBT Human Rights.
Read a book that takes place in a country different from your own.

August
The first Gay Games open on August 28, 1982 in San Francisco.
Read a book involving a sportsperson or a sport (cover and title also count). Or taking place in one of the cities where the Gay Games have been.

September
September 20, 2011. Full implementation of the repeal of "Don't ask, don't tell" (DADT).
Read one book about the military, DADT or where a character is in any type of uniform.

October
On October 20 we commemorate LGBT youth who are victims of bullying, this is called Spirit Day.
Read any book that somehow involves young people (under 18) and/or bullying. Or a book with a purple cover.

November
Craig Rodwell opens the Oscar Wilde Memorial Bookstore in November 1967.
Read any book written by an LGBTQ author or about a writer.

December
December 1 is World AIDS day.
Read a book somehow related to the AIDS/HIV problematic.
