Hi Savannah,Can we add a Tsu thread to the social media topics. It's still new but growing every day. And it's quickly becoming my favorite source for social media.
A social network set up like FB but follows hashtags like twitter. It's only a few months old, but already has a lot users. It's clean and user friendly. I've found a lot of bloggers there as well as authors, reviewers, photographers, craft designers, and a little bit of everything else.
Just wondering: how well does it work when you ask people to vote for all 4 books? For example for the February books I only have 2 on my ereader, so I plan to read those two (if chosen) and from the other 2 polls nothing. But to let my vote count for those 2, I also have to vote for the other 2. So I just made a random choice (don't ask me what I voted, because I have no idea...). When more people vote like that, something might win, which hardly anyone really wants/plans to read? Which, I think, is not really fair for those people who really like to read a book for that genre, but might not have won.Do you know what I mean?
Elsbeth, you made a very valid point, and Sia and I discussed it and we decided we will no longer enforce the 4 votes-or-nothing rule.
Thank you for your input Elsbeth

You are welcome! It actually made me feel a bit guilty: voting for something which I have no intention of reading. I will cancel my votes for the things I won't be reading, to give real voters a chance.
Thank you!
Well I didn't know where to put this so here I am in a random thread again hoping I'm doing it right :-). I just wanted to say I have met some of the nicest mods and a few friends from this group. Everyone is so kind and helpful in this group!! You all rock! Savannah for putting up with all of my crazy questions. Sia hasn't had to worry about that yet. Haha. Thank again
I will friend people from the group as we obviously have certain genres in common. Have a wonderful day!! :-)
Your comment at the poll about the Bingo, brought something to mind. In another group we have Badges you can earn: for participating in the groupread (or reading another book which is related to the monthly theme), for participating in the monthly challenge, for reaching another level in the yearlong challenge, for participating in the Toppler (= sort of a read-a-thon) etc. It makes participating even more fun - and is cheaper than giving people prizes! This is the link to my 'Wall of fame': https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
I have made a challenge, which I think might be fun (maybe there will be more who think so?...).It's a man/woman challenge, which I called MARS & VENUS CHALLENGE. I came up with about 20 tasks, which consist of a man, woman and both version.
For example:
1A. Read a book written by a man.
1B. Read a book written by a woman.
1C. Read a book written by a man and woman. (like Nicci French)
4. Spelling task. Read books where the title starts with the following letters (ignore a, an, the etc.).
4A. M, A, N (so read 3 books)
4B. W, O, M, A, N (so 5 books for this one)
4C. C, O, U, P, L, E (so 6 books for this)
8. Read a book with one of the following words in the title (no variations).
8A. Grandfather, Husband, Father, Brother, Son.
8B. Grandmother, Wife, Mother, Sister, Daughter.
8C. Grandparents, Couple, Parents, Siblings, Children.
10A. Read a book with a blue cover or the word blue in the title.
10B. Read a book with a pink cover or the word pink in the title.
10C. Read a book with a purple cover or the word purple in the title.
I have about 16 tasks like the above and a few others. You could do it on 5 levels:
A. is the male version (doing only the A. tasks)
B. is the female version (doing only the B. tasks)
C. is the couple version (doing only the C. tasks)
D. is the human version (doing all the tasks)
E. is the alien version (doing 1 task for each number, but it can be A, B or C. Every task you can change that).
If you are interested, I can mail you the entire challenge I made so far. If not, that's also fine. :)
The Lit Lover wrote: "Wow, Elsbeth, those challenges sound so fun!"Thank you, Lit Lover! Sometimes I think of some challenge idea and I get a bit carried away. ;)
The Lit Lover wrote: "I've never heard anything like them before. You came up with them yourself?"Well, this one, yes. But there are loads of book groups here on goodreads where you can do all kind of challenges. Sometimes they are short ones, for just a month. Sometimes you can take all year to finish one. And sometimes there is no deadline (those are usually the ones with the most tasks).
There are challenges with spelling tasks or ones in which you can to read books in which something specific happens or with something on the cover. And most of them have a specific theme. I'm doing a 'Disney Princesses'-challenge. A 'Mountain-challenge', a 'Cover A-Z', a 'Classic Bingo' challenge...
So much fun! :D
It's when you sign up and then paired up with someone and they pick 3 books from a list they want you to pick from and you'll read one or more of the books picked that month.Did I make sense?
I'm a tad confused. So you're paired with a buddy (which worries me because that hasn't gone well in this group) and then say you and I were together. You would give me a list of 3 books to read, and I'd choose from that? Or I give you a list and you choose which book I'm supposed to read from that?
I'd choose the 3 books from a list that you want me to pick from. You don't have to read all 3, 1 is fine.
Hmmm... I like it! I think we'll do it. I'll start it August then! Thank you for the idea Jess!!!
All these ideas sound amazing! I'm so excited to participate in more of these challenges! I'm so sorry, Savannah, that I haven't really been active around here. Coming back from my vacation was a bit hectic, and then yesterday I had to waitress all day, but I'm back now! Also, my library account is... Let's just say overdue, and you can go from there. :)Also, Savannah, me and my friend Erin are starting a group blog about books at www.breathinginthepages.wordpress.com. I would love it if you could join and invite the members of this group. We really want to have a group where we can all contribute to reviews and essays, stuff like that.
As long as it's not advertising for a group on here, I don't care if you post about it.. and I'd be glad to join! But go ahead and post in the blog section and let people know about it there!
I'm going to start Bingo again in January. But no one participates in the challenges/games we do have. If more people become active I will!
We need to raise awareness about Emotional Abuse. Emotional abuse is often overlooked as a form of domestic violence. We often associate abuse only with battery & brusies - the visual forms of abuse. At times even the victim doesn't know that they are being emotionally and psychologically abused in a relationship. Thus this form of abuse
is often missed damaging the victim more than the physical form.
Please do recommend books on emotional abuse.
My recommendation: wound without scar For a sensitive topic like this, it was an easy but engaging read. SOmething one can try as a weekend read.

I would like to request a new game. Gif War!The purpose of the game, a friendly and appropriate but entertaining one is for one person to post a gif and then the next one to post another in a similar theme, as a conversation, to be cute, humor, etc. I admit I suggest this because another group I'm in had a gif war game but it got deleted and I really enjoyed playing it and I want it back.
Hello! My name is Alexandra McCann and my new book, Angels Can't Swim, is available for pre-order on Amazon. I hope everyone can check it out and consider reading! Thank you and have a lovely day. Three college juniors. A swim team. A manipulative coach. Unexpected life circumstances. A girl struggling with her sexuality. A story that you will not forget.
Angels Can’t Swim is a novella that captures so many elements of the life of a student-athlete, from mental health to sexuality to relationships. While partially a story about swimming, it is also the story of finding yourself, finding your voice, and figuring out who you want to be. Focusing on college students and those around them but dealing with issues that cross the lifespan, readers from young adult all the way up will all enjoy this book and find something in one of the characters that sounds a little bit like them.
