Thomas McKean wasn’t just some random man who signed The Declaration Of Independence. He was also The Chief Justice of Pennsylvania- one of the highest honored places to be at the time.While in Congress as a representative from Delaware, he was also the Chief Justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. In this role, McKean was an early supporter of a strong system, one strong enough to overturn a state law, if needed, as a non-political person. McKean was in his place for twenty-two years. Holding this spot, as the head one of the most-influential state courts in the new republic. Thomas McKean was indeed a founding father; but also lived by many names. He was a well-educated man in law and represented others during his time of being a strong and powerful political figure.

[ Early life and career before the signing ]

McKean was born in Pennsylvania on March 19, 1734 to parents who were Irish Protestants. When he was old enough, he moved to Delaware as a young teenager to study the subject of law. After graduating, he quickly rose in the political and legal circles. Obviously, his passion drove him to become a better man. In many instances, he represented his state in many forms. For instance, during the Stamp Act crisis in 1765, McKean was the representative of the “Lower Counties” of home state Delaware. In many instances, he was the representative of wanting his state’s freedom. To be able to be under their own control.

McKean voted for the independence of Delaware, yet some voted against it. As a result, he was sent to the First Continental Congress as delegate for Delaware in 1774. In 1775, he was appointed a member of the Second Continental Congress. So, from the very beginning of it all, McKean was very outspoken about what he believed in: That they should take their independence from Britain. It was a long fight, yes. During the Revolutionary War, McKean spent many years in France and Britain as one of the representatives of the American rebels. First, as a minister to France, Adams secured spent many years in France and Britain as a representative of the American rebels. First, as a minister to France, Adams secured support for the Revolution from the most powerful country in Europe opposed to the British. In 1783, John Adams played a leading role in negotiations with the British that led to the Treaty of Paris, ending the Revolutionary War and establishing a reasonably amicable trade relationship between Britain and the newly founded United States of America. . In 1789 he was back in America during the first presidential election. Recognized for his excellent political acumen and service to the nation, he placed second behind George Washington and became the first Vice President of the United States. After two terms, he won the election of 1796 to become the second President of the United States. Adams envisioned a strong, centralized government to be formed after the War of Independence and became a leader of the Federalist Party.

McKean left the court in 1799 to become Pennsylvania’s governor. Already a controversial figure in the state, dating back to the days when he served in the Congress and as a Chief Justice at the same time, McKean left the Federalist party and fought against them over state patronage positions. He switched back to the Federalists in his third campaign for governor in 1805, survived an impeachment attempt, and then retired from politics at the end of 1808.






Conclusion

Thomas McKean was, like the other Founding Fathers, an important part of the Constitution. Out of all of the Founding Fathers, Thomas McKean seemed to have represented his state in a diligent way. He was passionate about what he did, and that passion is what drove him to become one of the best representatives of his state.
