Finn and Layla are young, in love, and on vacation. They’re driving along the highway when Finn decides to stop at a service station to use the restroom. He hops out of the car, locks the doors behind him, and goes inside. When he returns Layla is gone—never to be seen again. That is the story Finn told to the police. But it is not the whole story.

Ten years later Finn is engaged to Layla’s sister, Ellen. Their shared grief over what happened to Layla drew them close and now they intend to remain together. Still, there’s something about Ellen that Finn has never fully understood. His heart wants to believe that she is the one for him...even though a sixth sense tells him not to trust her.

ch 28 (view spoiler)[ First, Finn is abusive. He hurt Siobhan when she said she was cheating on him then again with Layla. Hitting people, especially women is fucked up. I'm glad Layla ran away from him at that rest stop. She's kind of crazy now though. (hide spoiler)]

ch 42 (view spoiler)[ So Layla wants Finn to kill Ellen and he's actually considering it! He could tell her he thinks Layla is definitely alive and he doesn't want to marry Ellen. He doesn't need to murder her. They're both crazy wow (hide spoiler)]

finished (view spoiler)[ What a weird book. Layla was Ellen and basically had split personality disorder and Finn killed her. I'm glad he confessed and is serving his time. The accents in the audiobook were cool (hide spoiler)]

9%: (view spoiler)[I wonder what Finn is hiding. He reminds me a bit of Jack from Behind Closed Doors. He seems like he needs to have absolute control given that he said Ellen would never dare disobey him and that she's so beautiful for obeying. Is Layla really dead? (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I'm glad someone else listens, and likes audiobooks. I agree that the accents and change in readers was really cool. The guy who read Finn's part was really good. Anyway, I don't know how to feel about this book. For one thing, I was really hooked on the story up until about the 50% mark, but it really lagged after that. That said, I would have probably given it a 4 or 4.5 rating if it weren't for the ending. I'm not sure why, but the ending really threw me off. I should have seen it coming given that the author hinted at the personality disorder with Layla taking on her mom's personality, but I also thought it would have been Ruby. Even so, I think it was interesting how mental illness was written into the story. I too am glad Finn did his time in jail. (hide spoiler)]
